The Unmoving Bride

“What kind of snake was it to be so fierce that even the boss couldn’t avoid it?” Duan Shiyun frowned slightly.

“We don’t know what kind of snake it was. Initially, everyone thought with the boss’s martial skills, a small snake shouldn’t be a problem, but this snake was odd, almost as if it knew martial arts. When the boss tried to grab it, it dodged to the left when he moved right. Stranger still, it seemed to predict the boss’s moves. After several exchanges, just when it was about to lose, it suddenly turned and bit the boss.” Hei Tou gestured vividly as he spoke.

This snake could actually fight back and even feign surrender to lure its enemy; it was a first for Duan Shiyun. “What did the snake look like?”

“The snake had five horns on its head, and its body was a mix of colors, with reds brighter than rouge, blues bluer than the sky, greens greener than grass, and blacks darker than my own hair.” Hei Tou, using his limited vocabulary, managed to convey a vivid image.

If it were any other day, Duan Shiyun would have teased Hei Tou for his description, but now, with a life at stake, there was no time for casual banter. “How is the boss after being bitten?”

“The boss just collapsed with a thud, scaring everyone. Fortunately, one of the younger guys who was with us for debt collection held him up and directed everyone to carry the boss back.”

As they spoke, they arrived at the pharmacy. “Second-in-command!” everyone called out as Duan Shiyun entered.

Duan Shiyun hurried to Nie Kuang’s side, seeing his face already turning black, his heart sank. “How is the boss now?” He took Nie Kuang’s hand, closing his eyes to check his pulse.

“Yang Feng gave him an antidote pill, temporarily saving his life,” Dr. Sun said with a grave expression.

It didn’t look good. Duan Shiyun released Nie Kuang’s hand. “Old Sun, just tell it like it is.”

“The poison has been suppressed, but we don’t know how long it will last. If we don’t find an antidote soon, he won’t make it,” Dr. Sun handed a small bowl to Duan Shiyun, “Look, this is the venom we squeezed from his wound. Have you seen anything like this before?”
