Blooming Flowers on the Quiet Path

At that moment, Gu Anqi hadn’t gone far. The time spent climbing down from the pile of clutter had cost her precious minutes, and she had just reached the roadside when she saw people chasing after her. How could she have known that Ji Li would discover her absence so quickly? Surveying her surroundings, she noticed an inconspicuous alley and quickly ducked into it, holding her breath to observe the situation outside. Though hidden, once discovered, there would be no escape. It was a gamble; if she wasn’t caught, she would hide far away and never appear before Ji Li again. Unfortunately, luck was not on her side, and soon someone noticed the alley, leading to her capture.

Back at the lounge, she faced a furious Ji Li. She was roughly thrown in front of him, and even as she fell, she made sure to protect her stomach. “I see, you suddenly wanted to work here to escape?” Ji Li squatted down, gripping Gu Anqi’s neck, and said menacingly, “I feed you, clothe you, and you try to run away?” His voice was calm, his grip on her neck loose, yet it instilled deep fear in Gu Anqi. It wasn’t her own fate she feared, but the safety of her child in Ji Li’s rage.

Chapter 11: Massive Hemorrhage

Feeling Gu Anqi tremble, Ji Li asked, “Why are you shaking so much? Are you that scared of me?”

“Don’t you know how you treat me? Shouldn’t I be afraid?”

“If you were afraid, you wouldn’t have planned an escape! Or slept with another man!” He suddenly roared, startling Gu Anqi, who tried to back away but was held by her neck. Ji Li pressed her to the ground, violently tearing at her already scant clothing. Gu Anqi struggled, pleading, “Please, don’t do this!”

“Acting innocent? Weren’t you in a hurry to sell yourself? Here’s your money, don’t play the whore and try to set up a monument in front of me!” Panting, he bit down hard on her chest.

“Ah!” Gu Anqi screamed in pain, her fair skin soon stained with blood. “Leave me alone! Don’t touch me!” She hit him, accidentally slapping his face. His demeanor turned dangerously, his lips smeared with blood, looking eerily seductive.

“I told you to stop acting, and you’re still at it? How many times have I touched you, and now you pretend to be pure?” He continued his assault.

“Please, Ji, I’m really not feeling well, don’t be so rough, please!” Gu Anqi tried to protect her stomach, but her hands were restrained. Ji Li was unmoved by her pleas, “Not feeling well? You ran pretty fast, didn’t you?” With that, he thrust forward, merging with her, his hands gripping her waist, each thrust harder than the last, draining the color from her lips.

In pain, Gu Anqi’s words were broken, “Please… please, be gentle, for… our child…” Her voice faded as she passed out.

In his fury, Ji Li hadn’t heard her plea. When he came to his senses after his release, he realized Gu Anqi was silent, and there was a pool of blood beneath her. “Gu Anqi, what trick are you playing now? Pretending to be dead again?” He scolded coldly, but inside, he was panicking. How could there be so much blood? He rushed her to the hospital.

“The patient is hemorrhaging severely and is in critical condition, Mr. Ji, please prepare yourself…” the hospital director said tremblingly, as this was a private hospital under Ji Corporation, and Ji Li was their boss. The director had to tread carefully. “What preparation? If you can’t save her, what good are you?” Ji Li angrily rebuked.

The director, shrinking back, explained, “Mr. Ji, we’ve done everything we can, but Miss Gu was pregnant. You were… not careful enough.” The director couldn’t help but feel indignant. It was Ji Li’s lack of restraint, not considering Gu Anqi’s pregnancy, that led to her miscarriage and severe bleeding, yet he was the one getting blamed.

“What? She was pregnant?” Ji Li was stunned. He vaguely remembered Gu Anqi mentioning a child, but at that moment, he was too blinded by anger to pay attention.

“And the child…?”

“The child is definitely not viable. Two months is the most unstable period, and with your…” The director trailed off, but the implication was clear.

Chapter 12: How Could She Die Ji Li’s mind went blank. If it was an eye for an eye, he had now also killed the child in Gu Anqi’s womb. That damned woman, why didn’t she tell him she was pregnant? “Please be gentle, I’m not feeling well.” “Please, Ji, I really don’t feel well.” Thinking back to Gu Anqi’s unusual behavior before, it made sense why she was always subconsciously protecting her stomach, and why she often said she wasn’t feeling well… Suddenly, he felt a pain like a knife cutting through his heart, this pain spreading throughout his body. Ji Li sat on the long bench in the hospital corridor, covering his face with both hands in despair. Why did it hurt so much? He thought it wasn’t because he felt sorry for Gu Anqi, but rather guilt towards the unborn child. But if Gu Anqi had really told him, would he have let her keep the baby? He didn’t know; these were all hypotheticals, and he couldn’t come up with an answer. Gu Anqi was still lying in the ICU, and as he looked through the glass window at her sleeping face, he felt as if he hadn’t looked at her properly for a long time. He put on sterile clothing, walked over to Gu Anqi, and coldly threatened, “Because of your concealment, you’ve killed my child. Now you owe me two lives, so wake up quickly, and then atone for your own mistakes!” Unfortunately, his words had no effect on Gu Anqi; her heartbeat didn’t change, nor did she wake up. By the third day, Ji Li could no longer contain his frustration and stormed into the director’s office, angrily questioning, “Why hasn’t she woken up after three days?” The director was sweating profusely, explaining again, “Well, Miss Gu already had anemia, and now there’s been significant blood loss, mainly because she wasn’t brought in in time…” He didn’t dare mention that Gu Anqi had Rh-negative blood, and the hospital’s blood bank lacked enough of this type, which led to her current state of unconsciousness and uncertain fate. After all, as the hospital director, failing to check the blood inventory was his negligence. If Ji Li found out, not only would his job be at risk, but if Ji Li, in a fit of rage, retaliated against him, he had elderly parents and young children to think about!

The attending physician, who was also a good friend of Chen Zhaoran, had been watching coldly from the side. Last time, he had intended to give Chen Zhaoran and Gu Anqi some privacy, so he didn’t stay close. But when he returned, he found Chen Zhaoran covered in blood, tied to the bed leg like a madman. Gu Anqi was missing from the room, and no matter how he asked, Chen Zhaoran remained silent, refusing to say what had happened. Now it was clear that Ji Li was the real culprit! He had known Ji Li not because he was the CEO of the Ji Corporation but as Gu Anqi’s boyfriend. This miscarriage was entirely caused by this man. He didn’t want to comment too much on others’ relationships, but it was evident now that Gu Anqi was being abused, living a life worse than death. And Chen Zhaoran’s injuries from that day were undoubtedly caused by Ji Li. He suddenly felt a surge of anger, and a plan began to form in his mind.

Chu Youyou also learned about Gu Anqi’s hospitalization and life-threatening condition, and with red eyes, she came to the hospital to visit her. Ji Li, at this moment, was too preoccupied to care about anything else, and in his eyes, Chu Youyou had always been kind, so he didn’t stop her. No matter how much he hated Gu Anqi, he didn’t want her to die so easily. If she died, what was the point of all he had planned to make her suffer? But the next day, news of Gu Anqi’s death came. Ji Li felt as if he had been struck by lightning, standing there dumbfounded, unable to react. She was dead… Without his permission, how could she just die like that?
