“Don’t say it!” She wanted to salvage the situation. “I, I’m just here as a guest.”
Wei Zhanyi deliberately ignored her words. “Youngest ‘what’?”
Yun Rou walked out of the kitchen, looking at her with a light smile, holding a plate of just-cooked basil clams.
“Little sister, you’re back? Have you eaten?”
Qing Yan’s panicked expression met Wei Zhanyi’s steady gaze.
He smiled like a cat toying with a mouse. “So, this is the teacher’s youngest daughter, who works at Tornado Magazine and is very interested in me – Miss Ding Qing Yan, right?
This delayed dinner was as uncomfortable as sitting on needles. Wei Zhanyi’s occasional glances made each grain of white rice feel like a rough sand particle, almost impossible to swallow.
Those eyes were strange, not accusatory or reproachful, but more like… toying with her, like a cat that has cornered a mouse, occasionally sharpening its claws and teeth, wanting to see the mouse’s desperate struggle.
After forty excruciating minutes, Wei Zhanyi stood up.
“I’ve bothered you long enough. I’ll visit again next time.”
“Okay, okay, drive carefully.” Old Ding was already drunk.
Qinyan, who had been silent for forty minutes, finally couldn’t hold back. “He has a driver, what’s there to worry about?”
“Even better, Qinyan. Didn’t you always want to meet Zhanyi? You see him off to the car.”
“Call second sister…” She hastily tried to shift responsibility.
“Miss Ding, why don’t you see me out? I’m quite interested in why you’re interested in me.”
Saying this, he gripped her arm and walked outside.
She had no time to cry for help. Her father was already slumped on the sofa, and Yunrou was washing dishes in the kitchen.
In the moonlight, his appearance was exceptionally handsome and resolute, with a mischievous smile at the corner of his mouth that made her realize she had lost from the very beginning.
“Should I call you ‘Miss Shen’ or ‘Miss Ding’?”
She didn’t want to engage with his teasing. “Why are you here?”
“Visiting a mentor.” He added leisurely: “Oh, and to expose a fraud.”
She puffed out her cheeks angrily. “How did you find me here?”
“I have an investigation team.” He said casually. “This is more than enough.”
What a “humble” tone!
