“13634209194,” the boss looked at the SIM card Hao Yunyang pulled out and casually read the number. Hao Yunyang just nodded slightly, continuing to play with the phone.
“Four hundred yuan, the fifty yuan of call credit is already on the card. Call 10086 and check yourself. There’s a three-month service trial period with no charges. After three months, you’ll be charged if you don’t cancel,” the boss chirped like a little bird. But Hao Yunyang, like a child with a new toy, didn’t pay him any attention, playing Snake on the phone.
“Come again next time!” The boss, who had been complaining about losing money, called out as Hao Yunyang paid and walked to the door. Hao Yunyang smiled and responded – this was just social courtesy. Even if they might never meet again, maintaining face was necessary; there was no need to create awkwardness.
“As long as I find a girlfriend and successfully get married and have kids, I won’t change this SIM card for life,” Hao Yunyang thought to himself, earphones in, listening to a song, thinking: “If the phone doesn’t break and still works, I won’t change it. I’ll save money to buy a good one for my sister! Hmm, Dad’s phone is no good either, I’ll buy him one too…”
On the way back to the hotel, Hao Yunyang was pondering what he would do if he suddenly came into a windfall.
First, tear down the old family house and build a new one, support his sister through university and help her marry well, then get married himself and have several chubby kids to continue the family line, take care of his parents so they can enjoy their retirement. If money was left over, he’d put it in the bank and earn interest – and that would be his life.
Hao Yunyang was just a migrant worker from a small place. Villas and sports cars were completely out of reach. Be realistic, more realistic, until finally he realized that even if given ten million, he wouldn’t know how to spend it!
Was this honesty, or was it tragic?
Shaking his head to clear away these wild thoughts, looking at the luxurious hotel entrance, Hao Yunyang sighed: “Be realistic. This is all you’ll amount to in this life…”
