Future Phone – Part One

Look, this is Hao Yunyang, an honest, hardworking, brave new-age youth who dares to tell the truth. At least from the perspective of the single Sister Hui, Hao Yunyang was quite to her liking. The only pity was that Hao Yunyang was from out of town, while Zhang Hui was a local. In this small town, local residents, regardless of their wealth, always looked at outsiders with a subtle hint of discrimination, as if they were superior.

Routinely filling out a bank transfer slip with the recipient’s account number, name, bank, ID number, and transfer purpose, Hao Yunyang transferred 1,000 yuan to his mother’s account, who controlled the family’s economic power. He then left the bank, feeling exceptionally light and pleasant, as if he had accomplished something remarkable.

Originally, Hao Yunyang intended to pawn his phone with the landlady and then redeem it after receiving his wages. However, the landlady said she was going to Shanghai to visit her husband who had a factory there. With no one at home, she didn’t want to deal with the few hundred yuan and instead criticized Hao Yunyang from head to toe.

“Out with the old, in with the new. If I’m buying, I’ll buy something better,” Hao Yunyang muttered on his way to the street. “These days, technology advances so quickly. Maybe 400 yuan could buy something even better than before.”

Self-consolation or self-encouragement? Whatever!

“This is the latest model,” said the salesman, fair-skinned with rimless glasses, dressed in a suit that made him look like a successful professional, with slicked-back, shiny hair. In his thirties, he held a silver-gray flip phone and spoke eloquently: “Five-million-pixel high-definition camera, ultra-long-lasting 72-hour lithium battery, internet browsing, QQ, not to mention Bluetooth and infrared. This phone can even connect to a computer for dial-up internet. With such comprehensive features and such a cool exterior, and seeing you’re a straightforward guy, I’ll sell it to you for 700 yuan. Really, don’t doubt me. I usually price this at 1,200 yuan for others!

“Hehe, keep it for yourself.” Hao Yunyang listened in confusion, but the price of seven hundred yuan was far beyond his psychological budget, and moreover, he had never even heard of this phone brand – it wasn’t even close to a knockoff!
