Four months ago. When Tao Le entered the dormitory with her suitcase, what greeted her was a book, specifically the thickest textbook on Criminal Law, slapped onto her face by Gu Liwen. Rubbing her now swollen forehead, Tao Le said indignantly, “Boss, are you going through early menopause or having a bad period? My face parts are all original, where would I go to replace them if they break?” Liu Haoyue quickly pulled Tao Le aside, whispering, “Peach, the boss is in a bad mood right now; she didn’t mean to hit you, we’ve all been hit.” Seeing the red, swollen foreheads of everyone, Tao Le felt like a storm was brewing. “What’s wrong with her?” “It’s about the thesis, she’s upset because the list is out, go see for yourself.” At the mention of the thesis, Tao Le perked up; she had just returned from the New Year and almost forgot about this. Carefully navigating around the others, she saw the pitiful thesis list being mangled by Gu Liwen’s claws. Tao Le reached out tremblingly, “Boss, let me see, calm down first.” Gu Liwen slammed the table, making Tao Le hold her breath; if this were the Qing Dynasty, Gu Liwen would be her Empress Dowager. Tao Le, in her sycophantic manner, rolled up her sleeves, her joints cracking, “Boss, who’s the scoundrel that upset you? I’ll go and sort him out!” Gu Liwen gritted her teeth, “That big-chested woman!” What big-chested woman? Tao Le looked at Liu Haoyue, signaling for an explanation. “Sigh… Here’s the deal, the boss initially chose your uncle, but somehow, it ended up in the hands of that woman from the Legal Documents Department. Do you remember her? The one who speaks in a high-pitched voice and flirts with the boys, the ‘Wave Woman’!” Now that she mentioned it, Tao Le did remember. This woman, in her early thirties, was not particularly beautiful but had a great figure. Every time she had a class, boys would rush to sit in the front row to catch a glimpse of her charm, and there were frequent fights over seats, but even so, she was a goddess in the eyes of the boys. However, there was always a flip side. Among the girls, she was the number one target of disdain, whether out of jealousy or envy. They couldn’t stand her bias towards boys; for the boys, a little sweet talk was enough to get away with skipping classes or failing exams, but for the girls, even the slightest mistake was met with harsh criticism, often affecting their grades and assessments. There’s a saying that goes, ‘Why do women make things difficult for other women?’ But in reality, that’s a pipe dream; women’s battles are always over men, and in the Law School, a new case had emerged. The war between them and the big-chested woman was also ignited by men, but the ultimate goal was control over the class. Men were just the cannon fodder in this scenario. Tao Le couldn’t help but sigh; Gu Liwen was fated to encounter this. After enduring until senior year graduation, this was the final blow. Sympathy was one thing, but after saying she’d take revenge for Gu Liwen, Tao Le immediately dismissed the idea; she didn’t want to become the target of a group beating by the boys. Seeing the fire in Gu Liwen’s eyes, Tao Le smiled, “Boss, forget it, as long as we don’t make mistakes, she can’t do anything to you. Peaceful graduation is the best outcome. Maybe she’ll be kinder to graduates.” Tao Le always believed in the inherent goodness of humanity, but saying this now seemed to add fuel to the fire.
Gu Liwen looked up, her voice icy, “Tao’er, it’s easy to talk when you’re not the one in trouble. How about we switch places, and you can be the savior of all mankind.” Mankind, my foot! You’re just one person, and I’m supposed to save you when I’ve got nothing better to do? Tao Le thought to herself, but she softened her tone, “Boss, come on, I was just joking. You know I’m the worst at litigation; there’s no need for me to rush into the fray.”
