Jingxin closed her eyes contentedly, feeling secure in his arms, his heartbeat powerful and his embrace warm. A sweet smile curved her lips; she wished time could stop and make this moment eternal.
“Xiangyang,” she murmured.
“Mm,” he responded softly, his voice low and husky.
“Xiangyang,” she called again, seemingly unconsciously saying his name.
“Mm,” he surprisingly didn’t find it annoying, which exceeded Jingxin’s expectations.
“Xiangyang,” she said softly, almost a whisper, “Marry me! I want to marry you!”
Who would believe these words came from Tian Jingxin? Even if Shanshan were beaten to death, she wouldn’t believe Jingxin would brazenly propose to a man. Now, Jingxin couldn’t even be sure if Xiangyang loved her or if he liked someone else, yet she spoke so rashly.
Shanshan wouldn’t remember what she once said, but Jingxin did—she claimed she had never changed because she hadn’t met someone worth changing for.
Like Guanyin telling Sun Wukong: “You are not yet yourself because you haven’t met the person who will give you three hemorrhoids.”
Now, she had met that person. Jiang Xiangyang was the one who would change her, not Wang Luozhou or others, just Jiang Xiangyang.
Jingxin’s words made Jiang Xiangyang’s body tremble. He let her go, the internal conflict resolved. Reason told him that this woman had already captivated him; he was beginning to care about her words, actions, tears, and thoughts.
He walked a few steps away, hands in his pockets, then spoke coldly: “Jingxin, I’ve never thought about spending my life with any woman!”
I hope you understand.
Selfishly, he didn’t want attachments that would shackle his steps. He was barely surviving and didn’t want a woman, especially Jingxin, to worry for him; her tears would only make him panic. Putting away his tenderness, he became cold and distant.
Jing Xin bit her lip, gathering courage. After a moment, she raised her head, meeting his eyes with determination, and said firmly: “Xiang Yang, I truly want to marry you.”
Jiang Xiang Yang turned away, avoiding her gaze. Damn, here she goes again, this woman’s crazy persistence.
“Can’t you understand what I’m saying? How can you be so shameless?” she asked, at a loss.
She fell silent again, but unexpectedly asked, “Xiang Yang, why won’t you marry me?”
