“Miss Chen?”
Old Sun called again, his tone slightly anxious. Faint noises were coming from the villa, and Chen Jing finally yawned and reluctantly got out of the car.
In fact, if not for Yu’s mother’s sake, the original owner was not very willing to meet Yu Xi.
In the original owner’s eyes, Yu Xi had always been an annoying brat, disliked since childhood and even more so as an adult.
However, the Chen and Yu families had been close friends for over thirty years, and it was said that they had once saved the original owner’s mother’s life. As a filial child, she wouldn’t ignore a request from her mother’s life-saver.
Since she had already agreed, and Chen Jing had just woken up, she was even less likely to refuse.
On the contrary, she was a bit curious.
…She had quickly glanced at a book title: “Deeply Obsessive Madman”.
How interesting.
Oh, I’ll go right away!
Old Sun stuffed a band-aid he had somehow obtained into Chen Jing’s hand, chuckling before running off to make a phone call.
Mother Yu noticed the wound on Chen Jing’s head, asking her with concern while casting a subtle glance at her son, who was lost in thought: “What happened?”
Chen Jing smiled carelessly: “It’s nothing, I just scraped it.”
She lowered her hand from her temple, tore off the band-aid, and stuck it on her forehead, her peripheral vision fixed on Yu Xi upstairs.
Mother Yu said Yu Xi might have some mental issues. Just the other night, he was eating dinner normally, then suddenly flipped the entire table, and his temperament changed dramatically afterward. He was always moody and liable to lose his temper at any moment. All the household staff, including the chef, had been sent to the hospital.
Yu Xi stared fixedly at Chen Jing, his possessive desire flickering in his eyes, the corners of his eyes an unsettling blood-red, yet he remained motionless, and the atmosphere in the living room gradually became subtle.
Chen Jing calmly applied the band-aid, crumpled the remaining paper, and casually tossed it into the nearby ashtray, squinting with a hint of pride.
Old Sun was equally swift, not waiting for an ambulance, making a call and rushing upstairs to handle things personally.
Unfortunately, Yu Xi was blocking the staircase.
Old Sun awkwardly stopped midway, glancing questioningly at Mother Yu on the second floor.
Mother Yu looked directly at Chen Jing.
After a moment of silence, Chen Jing suddenly stepped forward towards Yu Xi.
The villa wasn’t particularly large.
Yet at this moment, besides Chen Jing’s seemingly casual footsteps, there was no other sound.
Chen Jing had no intention of holding back.
She approached Yu Xi openly and unhurriedly, a faint smile on her face, looking directly into his eyes.
However, no one present would think Chen Jing was simply trying to communicate with Yu Xi.
Even Yu Xi, who was glaring fiercely at Chen Jing, narrowed his eyes when she stepped on the third stair.
As if assessing whether her actions threatened him, or calculating the likelihood of suddenly lifting her and running into the bedroom, locking the door so she could never escape.
“Yu Xi,” Chen Jing stopped near him, looking up with a smile, observing his expression. “Do you know who I am?”
Yu Xi remained silent.
Mother Yu stared at Yu Xi’s next move, gripping the stair railing tightly, a drop of nervous sweat sliding down her temple.
Even Old Sun was tensed in place; he understood Chen Jing was likely probing the young master’s condition.
Chen Jing focused on Yu Xi, her fingertips lightly brushing the stair railing, continuing to walk up, quickly passing Old Sun.
Unexpectedly, as she approached, Yu Xi’s aggressive aura began to subside.
The first change was in his eyes.
The originally blood-red, sharp hostility dissipated, and Chen Jing was the one controlling the wind direction.
Until Chen Jing took the final step, mere centimeters from Yu Xi, he had miraculously calmed down.
Chen Jing frowned, staring closely at his face, her gaze unabashedly examining him, trying to discern something.
This was a very dangerous distance.
From Chen Jing’s current position, if Yu Xi attacked, a simple push could send her tumbling down, potentially causing leg fractures or paralysis.
With Chen Jing’s capabilities, she was well aware of this. She had clearly seen the meaning in Mother Yu’s previous glance, and combined with Yu Xi’s changes after she climbed the stairs, Chen Jing felt Mother Yu was hiding something.
“Yu Xi?” Chen Jing called tentatively.
Yu Xi trembled, seemingly startled by Chen Jing, suddenly stepping back two steps, his gaze towards her now filled with terror.
Chen Jing’s brow jumped, turning to look at Mother Yu. Mother Yu’s gaze avoided her, turning away.
Yu Xi stumbled backward, and when Chen Jing wasn’t looking, turned to climb the railing. He was going to jump!
Mother Yu’s pupils suddenly contracted, as if seeing something horrifying, her face instantly turning pale.
Chen Jing, sensing something, turned back: “Yu Xi!”
Yu Xi abruptly stopped, gripping the railing tightly, his whole body trembling. He had climbed halfway, his entire body hanging on the railing, swaying precariously, on the verge of falling at any moment.
Chen Jing frowned and ran over, no longer caring about probing, and in two or three steps reached his side, hugging his waist and pulling him down, her face looking extremely ugly as she scolded: “Have you gone mad!”
Yu Xi trembled, reaching back to grab Chen Jing’s hand around his waist, his face pale and gasping heavily, his eyes shimmering with tears, seemingly about to cry. He felt overwhelmingly confused and panicked, with an empty heart, yet not knowing what he was afraid of. Only by gripping Chen Jing’s hand did he feel a slight sense of security.
Chen Jing shouted but got no response, gradually calming down and sensing something was off.
Yet from the moment Chen Jing pulled Yu Xi down until now, she hadn’t seen Yu Xi’s mother! Wasn’t she worried? How strange.
Chen Jing, full of doubts, turned to look in the direction of Yu Xi’s mother, and her heart skipped a beat. The place where his mother had been standing was now empty?!
Chen Jing looked at the old man on the stairs. Sure enough, he was also gone.
Chen Jing withdrew her gaze thoughtfully, looking at Yu Xi, who had tightly embraced her, gradually calming down and drowsing off.
What was Yu Xi’s mother doing?
Even if they were close due to family relations, and because she was a psychologist who could take care of Yu Xi, who might have a mental illness, she couldn’t be this unconcerned, right?
Chen Jing, who had always been perceptive, now found herself unable to guess the Yu family’s intentions.
This meant that to understand something deeper, she could only rely on guessing.
However, from what she had just seen, it was clear that Yu Xi was indeed not normal.
The normal Yu Xi would not alternate between madness and fear, nor cling to her so desperately.
Chen Jing stared at Yu Xi’s face for a while, her peripheral vision catching his hand, and she frowned, unable to resist trying to pull her hand away.
As soon as she moved, Yu Xi suddenly exerted force, holding her hand tightly like a child, his eyelashes trembling, his lips pulling straight in a dissatisfied expression. Chen Jing’s mouth twitched.
No matter how many worlds passed, the male lead, guided by Yin Li, would be like this.
Well, come to think of it, this was the first time Yu Xi had been this harmonious with her after knowing each other for so many years.
Was it because he was sick?
Chen Jing took a deep breath and lowered her head to pat his face, her voice soft: “Yu Xi, wake up.”
