“You…” Xiao Jin couldn’t understand what she wanted to do, just timely supporting Bing Zhi who was about to fall.
Bing Zhi barely made it to the table and sat down, then went straight to the point, making an effort to eat the Yunpian gao heartily. It wasn’t that she was being dramatic, but usually on the island, she ate simple vegetarian food or lightly prepared meat, which, despite possibly good ingredients, was still tasteless. There were absolutely no such exquisite pastries.
Xiao Jin was not surprised, just quietly sitting across from Bing Zhi, pouring a cup of tea and handing it to her.
Bing Zhi didn’t even look up, took the tea and drank it, then continued eating, ignoring Xiao Jin’s inadvertent display of affection.
Chapter Six: The Character for “Worry” (2)
One eating, one watching someone eat, this bizarre scene continued for a long time, until Wind appeared.
“Master.” Wind had actually been there long ago, but he had his own “invisibility technique”.
“Speak.” The master-servant dialogue had always been this “simple”.
“Master, they again…” Wind did not speak in front of Bing Zhi, instead leaning close to Xiao Jin’s ear to whisper. Bing Zhi didn’t listen carefully; with her current condition, it was already good that her hearing hadn’t diminished.
After a long time, Wind finished reporting and stood up, retreating to the side, but this time he did not disappear. Xiao Jin glanced at Bing Zhi, who was still eating, and said: “I have something to do and will go out for a while. Do not leave here.”
Bing Zhi couldn’t free her mouth to answer, so she just nodded. Xiao Jin smiled satisfactorily and instructed: “Wind, stay here.” “Yes,” Wind responded.
“Uh! Don’t you need his help?” Bing Zhi quickly drank some water and asked.
Xiao Jin was about to walk out the door; hearing this, he turned back, narrowed his charming eyes, and seemingly teasingly said: “Are you concerned about me?” Then he elegantly flew away.
Although it sounded like a joke, it stirred up thousands of waves in Bing Zhi’s heart. Yes! Was she unconsciously caring about him?
After a long time, there was no sound in the room because Wind had already disappeared again.
Bing Zhi was not talkative to begin with, and with Wind gone and Xiao Jin left without a trace, silence filled the room, like a dark alley without warm sunlight, with a gray and heavy feeling.
Bing Zhi was forcibly pressed back onto the bed to rest. Surprisingly, Wind brought a large pile of books to entertain her. For the sake of the books, she wouldn’t make things difficult for Wind – undoubtedly, this was an order from Xiao Jin to Wind.
But these books wouldn’t speak.
Although Bing Zhi liked quietness, she was not a bookworm who would dive into books and never want to come out. Unable to bear it any longer, Bing Zhi put down the heavy book and got out of bed.
The moment she got up, Wind floated behind her, and suddenly, a cloak appeared on her body. She didn’t know whose it was, but she didn’t refuse. This was probably Xiao Jin’s last bottom line.
Walking to the courtyard, some branches of the two plum trees seemed to have sprouted new leaves, while most of the leafless dry branches crisscrossed the sky overhead, like hands of demons escaping from the eighteenth level of hell, coming to claim lives. Layer upon layer of dark clouds pressed overhead, a leaden gray gloom that couldn’t be wiped away, like a stone pressing down, making it hard to breathe. This was truly not good weather.
The wind, though light, carried sand, ruthlessly brushing past Bing Zhi’s pale face. She looked into the distance, this time towards Haishi Island. Although the island lacked the warmth of a normal family and had no so-called laughter, at least the people on the island had no malice. This was the sense of security that only Haishi could provide.
Standing in such wind, the cold grew stronger, with a momentum to destroy everything.
The gale carved a long, narrow slit in the sky, and a few snowflakes fell to the ground, like blood seeping from that wound, only this blood was mixed with white.
Is it snowing so early? Bing reached out to catch a snowflake, the white snow falling on her palm, icy cold, then melting into water, dripping out of her hand. Bing felt that in the moment the water droplet fell, it took away her last warmth.
Close her eyes. The snow was heavy, Bing standing still like an ice sculpture, no sound, no movement.
The wind knew it couldn’t persuade Bing, thinking the master should have finished her business by now, so it quietly moved out of the courtyard.
Unexpectedly, “Where are you going,” Bing suddenly spoke after noticing the wind’s movement.
The wind was startled. Besides the master, no one could detect any of his movements while invisible. It was because of this that he had followed the master, as the master had discovered the weakness of his stealth skill but had never told him, only asking him to find the answer himself.
Abandoning his little plan, the wind looked troubled. Bing was no longer stubborn and said, “Let’s go inside.”
The wind was inwardly delighted. However, he was still playful and cheerful before critical moments. Xiao Jin had almost lost his life because of the wind’s habits. Since then, the wind had become more cautious and loyal to Xiao Jin.
But the next second, Bing softly collapsed without warning. The wind was caught off guard and quickly rushed to catch her. A moment before he could reach her, a black shadow caught the falling Bing and carried her into the inner room.
The wind sighed in relief, then followed into the room, watching Xiao Jin take Bing’s pulse and give her a pill left by the rain. He began to report: “Master, Miss Bing was reading for a while, then went to the courtyard. As you said, I didn’t stop her, just gave her a cloak. But when it started snowing, she refused to go back, and so this happened. I failed to take care of her!”
“Eat well. No talking while eating, no speaking while resting.” Xiao Jin furrowed his brow. Coincidentally, right after Xiao Jin finished speaking, a piece of fatty meat solidly blocked Feng’s big mouth, rendering him unable to speak or eat.
After the ridiculous farce, Feng chuckled foolishly, and under Xiao Jin’s warning gaze, he stopped talking and lowered his head to eat bitterly. “You don’t need to pay attention to him; he’s just like that.” Only the master and servant knew what had just happened with the meat.
“Pfft.” Bing zhi couldn’t help but laugh, not for any other reason than the rare joke at the dining table.
Xiao Jin looked at this brilliant and dazzling smile and suddenly felt a sense of guilt in his heart. Was he now helping her or helping his own family?
“Then eat more.” Without much mood to say more, Xiao Jin ate silently.
Bing zhi saw his expression and thought he might have some worries, so she stopped talking and started eating, silently pondering. Now that she was awake, she needed to make some plans. She needed to recover from her injuries, and she knew that she couldn’t successfully assassinate anyone on her own, so she would need assistance.
Bing zhi looked at the person across from her for a long time before finally asking, “Xiao Jin, do you plan to avenge Wang Bo?”
Xiao Jin raised his eyes, unsurprised, and slowly said, “There are two kinds of revenge in this world.”
One is for personal reasons, seeking revenge regardless of consequences, which is selfish; the other is to prevent others from suffering the same fate, which is about eliminating harm.
“Correct.” Xiao Jin knew what Bing zhi was implying but didn’t point it out directly. “If the avenger really did that, he might get temporary satisfaction and pleasure, but would plunge others into dire straits.”
