Was she seeking revenge out of selfishness? When Bing zhi realized her beliefs were wavering, she was startled. She had originally intended to probe Xiao Jin’s thoughts, and now it seemed he would not help her.
“Is this your view? Then why did you save me?” she asked directly.
“Wanted to save you,” Xiao Jin lowered his eyes, naturally serving Bing zhi some dishes. “Do you really want revenge in your heart? Is there anything else in your life besides hatred? If not, what will you do after achieving your goal? What will you live for? Have you thought about it?”
Xiao Jin’s series of questions left Bing zhi confused. She remembered the moment when the sword was about to pierce the emperor’s heart, and the sadness and unease she had felt.
Had she been wrong?
Bing Zhi fell silent.
After the age of seven, she was blinded by hatred, even forgetting her former self. But now, it seems she is recovering her past self.
“Yes!” Wind was happy to have something to do. With a “swoosh” sound, Wind, true to his name, flew away like the wind.
After Wind left, Bing Zhi hurried to the kitchen and tidied up some miscellaneous items. Since the house had been uninhabited for some time, it looked messy. A thick layer of dust covered the kitchen utensils. When she blew on them, Bing Zhi choked and coughed, then cleaned them until they looked as good as new.
After tidying up, Bing Zhi sensed Wind’s presence, “Wind, I’m here. Did you find it?”
“Uh, found it. It’s on page ten, very detailed.”
“Thank you!” Bing Zhi took the book and began reading carefully. “You can go do your own thing.” Wind slunk away.
Bing Zhi read through all the production methods and techniques, feeling she understood them and could start working. However, the ingredients seemed to require long-term aging.
She wondered if the kitchen had any ready-made ingredients. With a curious attitude, she looked around. “How strange, there are actually prepared ingredients here!” Bing Zhi exclaimed.
So she skipped the first two steps and went directly to step three: mixing powder. Take an appropriate amount of aged rice flour and mix it with moistened sugar, stirring to make it fluffy and soft. Bing Zhi looked at the book while operating, both hands covered in sugar and flour. Turning the pages was inconvenient, and since it wasn’t her book, she was afraid of dirtying it.
“What are you doing?” Xiao Jin’s voice suddenly came. In fact, he knew, “Bing Zhi had asked me for a book on making cloud cake early on and is now in the kitchen.”
“Ah! It’s you. You scared me! Your martial arts are so high, and I can’t sense you. Next time, can’t you make some noise so I can sense you in advance?” Bing Zhi scolded deliberately after the initial shock.
Was having high martial arts a problem? Xiao Jin thought Bing Zhi was being unreasonable and pursed his lips without speaking.
“Are you really angry? I was just joking. Don’t be mad! Come, look at what I’m making.” Bing Zhi treated Xiao Jin like a child.
Xiao Jin walked over and glanced, “Cloud cake?”
“Yes, how did you know?” Bing Zhi nodded repeatedly.
” Xiao Jin pointed with his chin at the open book with large characters reading “Cloud Cake Production Method”. Bing Zhi realized her embarrassment after reacting, having asked a silly question.
“Hey! Too fast!” Bing Zhi roared, as if someone had committed a grave mistake.
“Let’s start over,” Xiao Jin said nonchalantly.
“Too slow now.”
“Skip it.”
“Almost there.”
“Restart.”
These disjointed sounds continued, one harsh, the other indifferent, lasting the entire day until dusk.
“Mission accomplished!” Bing Zhi’s face bloomed with a smile.
“The meal is ready,” Wind arrived just in time, seemingly waiting for Bing Zhi’s words. His stomach had been protesting all day. He wondered how these two weren’t hungry.
“You go ahead, we’ll be right there,” Xiao Jin perceptively understood Wind’s thoughts.
Wind vanished instantly, drawn by the fragrant meal.
“We’ve been busy all day, we’ll check again tomorrow,” Xiao Jin wiped the powder off Bing Zhi’s face, “Look at you, like a calico cat.”
“Aren’t calico cats cute?” Bing Zhi batted her eyelashes flirtatiously.
“Not just cute, but charming,” Xiao Jin looked at Bing Zhi ambiguously, leaving her momentarily stunned.
By the time Bing Zhi came to her senses, Xiao Jin had already walked away, his laughter echoing back.
Bing Zhi looked at Xiao Jin’s figure merging with the sunset and chuckled.
Xiao Jin’s sharp palm wind suddenly stopped before smashing the small man’s skull, and when he turned around, he readjusted his emotions before speaking: “How could you come out privately? How dangerous this is. Do you want to die again?”
Although Xiao Jin tried to calm his anger, his tone still carried a hint of blame and a barely perceptible concern.
Bing listened to these words without saying anything, but felt warm inside, “I’m sorry, I’ll go back immediately. But please don’t hurt him.”
Xiao Jin narrowed his eyes and scrutinized the short man, then turned back to look at Bing, “Give me a reason.”
Bing felt inexplicably guilty and swallowed, “He helped me, that’s all.”
“Okay, come back with me.” Bing felt there was a sense of relief in Xiao Jin’s tone.
Xiao Jin walked ahead, and Bing obediently followed back.
“My name is Wu Ran!” the short man shouted from behind, but Bing didn’t think knowing his name was of any use.
Xiao Jin suddenly stopped, almost causing Bing to bump into him. Looking at her embarrassed appearance, he seemed to curl his mouth, as if mocking her. Bing was not to be outdone and raised an eyebrow at him.
He suddenly stopped looking at Bing and said, “You come too.” Without waiting to see if they followed, he disappeared in a few steps.
Wu Ran exclaimed admiringly, “Seems even more powerful than you, master!”
Bing purged her lips, guessing he had already arrived home. Was she getting used to it? In recent days, Xiao Jin and Wind had been like family, especially Xiao Jin. As for Wind, he was always invisible.
Suddenly, someone appeared in front of her, startling her. It was Wu Ran. “How are we going back?” he asked with large, watery eyes.
“Wind, take him back,” Bing instructed, knowing Xiao Jin must have left Wind here.
She didn’t know when she became so certain about understanding Xiao Jin.
“Okay. You go first; I’ll bring him,” Wind replied. Wu Ran likely was too surprised by this scene to speak during the journey.
In Bing’s room, Xiao Jin waited with his hands behind his back for Bing and the others to return.
Who knew Wu Ran would suddenly stop and say seriously: “Master, although they are all very capable, I only recognize you as my master! My master’s friends are my friends, and my master’s enemies are my enemies. Whatever you tell me to do, I’ll do it!”
Chapter 8: Farewell (4)
Looking at the person in front of her making such a solemn promise, Bing Zhi was neither surprised nor stunned.
Would he really help her assassinate the current emperor? She found it somewhat unbelievable, “Why? How can you make such a promise so casually?” Her voice became somewhat stern.
Wu Ran was clearly startled by Bing Zhi’s sudden change in attitude, but still replied seriously: “Indeed, such a promise is heavy, but not made lightly. I think it’s worth it!”
Bing Zhi was taken aback, then understood, “That’s right.”
After a moment of silence, Wu Ran stretched lazily and shouted satisfactorily, “Ah! What a feast!”
“You should go praise them at their shop,” Bing Zhi teased.
“I’m going to leave, to a very distant place. I don’t even know when I’ll be back,” Wu Ran’s face suddenly darkened.
Bing Zhi was also stunned, “And then?”
She thought he wouldn’t answer, but he surprisingly said, “Then come back to marry you!”
