The CEO’s Justifiable Betrayal

After a month of recuperation, Kang Yansheng’s leg finally healed. As soon as he could walk, he immediately went to Ji Mengtang’s residence and her known friends’ places to find her whereabouts.

In fact, while still in bed, he had continuously tried calling her, but her home phone was never answered, and her mobile remained off, driving him to desperation. The moment the doctor declared he could get up, he rushed to find her, but – she had disappeared!

No one knew where she went, and no one could contact her. She had vanished since his hospitalization. If not for occasional text messages assuring the other four leaders of the Wu Hang Group, they would have been anxious enough to call the police.

Like a headless fly searching everywhere, Kang Yansheng’s hope sank with each dead end. Did she truly not want to see him? Was she willing to abandon the Wu Hang Group’s affairs just to avoid him?

To her, was he a plague or a virus? Even his injury and hospitalization couldn’t evoke a shred of sympathy from her.

Perhaps he shouldn’t blame her for being so cruel, but instead thank her for her mercy. At least by completely cutting off his hopes, she allowed him to give up entirely, which was better than constantly giving him hope and making him wait endlessly.

He sat in his office, covering his eyes, trying to prevent something he didn’t want others to see from flowing from his eyes.

“Brother Kang,” a soft call reached his ears. Without looking up, he knew who it was.

Since successfully performing her heart surgery two months ago, she had been frequently in contact with him. After learning about his hospitalization, she had come to the hospital daily, peeling fruit for him, brewing soup, and preparing nutritious dishes, caring for him meticulously.

He could sense her deep affection for him. Previously, he could only appreciate her care without reciprocating her feelings, but now –

“Shurou,” he raised his head, looking at Lin Shurou’s gentle face, suddenly feeling utterly exhausted.

For over five years, he had desperately pursued a woman who hated him, using every means, even stooping to despicable tactics to possess her, thinking he could keep her by his side forever. Yet, in the end, she still left him!

Even though he was willing to prove his love with his life, she still disdained him, leaving without a backward glance during his hospitalization. What else could he hope for? She had made her stance abundantly clear through her actions!

“Brother Kang, what’s wrong?” Lin Shurou moved forward to feel his forehead, asking anxiously: “Are you unwell? Is your injured foot still hurting -“

“Shurou!” He suddenly grabbed her hand, forcefully pulling her into his embrace.

“Brother Kang…” Lin Shurou was both shy and nervous but unwilling to push away from his embrace.

“Marry me, Shurou!” he said with closed eyes, speaking painfully.

He could no longer pin his hopes on a cold-hearted woman who showed no care for him. Although he still deeply loved Ji Mengtang, he was truly exhausted, no longer able to chase her constantly evading steps.

Forgive his selfishness! At this moment, he needed gentle hands to comfort his immensely wounded heart – even though he didn’t truly love Shurou.

“Brother Kang – are you serious?” Lin Shurou’s trembling hand covered her lips, her eyes brimming with joyful tears. “You really want… to marry me?”

“Yes, please marry me! Although I can’t explain why I’m suddenly proposing, I promise to take care of you and treat you well after we marry. If you don’t mind, then -“

“No! How could I mind?” She was overjoyed to the point of madness. “I’m willing to marry you! I’ll go home immediately and tell my father to preside over our wedding!”

She didn’t care why he was marrying her. As long as he was willing to marry her, she was ecstatic!

“I will personally visit my mentor and discuss the wedding date. However, I hope you’ll understand one thing – I want the wedding arrangements to be as simple as possible.” Now, he was emotionally exhausted and probably couldn’t handle an elaborate, grand wedding.
