“What do you want?” Summer rain was like this – thunder one moment, then large raindrops the next. Yue Xiyi walked from his sheltered eaves to Yu Yelan’s small roof, already soaked.
“I…” Another thunderclap rang out, and Yu Yelan curled up. “Don’t… don’t… I’m so scared! Dad, I’m so scared!”
Yue Xiyi suppressed the urge to roll his eyes. “Come on, I’ll let you follow me.” As soon as he said this, he wanted to bite his tongue. Since when did a heartless person like him become so sympathetic?
“Really?” Yu Yelan’s eyes were already moist. She tried to breathe and prevent tears from falling, looking pitifully at Yue Xiyi.
“Really, let’s go! But only today. Once the rain stops, you’ll leave and find your dad or anyone else. Just don’t follow me!” Yue Xiyi added, one day being his absolute limit. He had never had a habit of taking in stray dogs.
Disappointment flashed in Yu Yelan’s eyes, but she immediately perked up and gave Yue Xiyi a grateful smile. “Understood, thank you!”
That instant of radiance stunned Yue Xiyi. He hadn’t expected an ordinary-looking girl could smile so charmingly.
Seeing Yu Yelan hugging herself tighter from another thunderclap, he reluctantly took off his coat and handed it to her. “Put this on!”
“No need…” Although shivering from the cold, Yu Yelan saw Yue Xiyi was left with only a short-sleeved shirt.
“Just wear it when I tell you!” Yue Xiyi roughly helped Yu Yelan put on the coat.
“Oh.” Yu Yelan timidly didn’t dare say more, afraid Yue Xiyi might change his mind about taking her.
Half an hour later, Yu Yelan and Yue Xiyi sat in an old but warm apartment. Wearing Yue Xiyi’s sportswear, Yu Yelan stared with round eyes like a curious rabbit in a new environment.
“I have something to do and will return very late tonight. There’s food in the refrigerator. You can sleep in the guest room.” Dropping this sentence, Yue Xiyi grabbed his keys and left.
