The chubby guy shut up sheepishly, still feeling indignant for Yue Ze. The two waited at the door for a long time. An An’s father went to pick up An An from school in between, and they all waited there until the doctor came out to tell them everything was fine, only then did they completely relax.
Yue Ze was in a private ward, the only patient in the room, with a relatively quiet environment. An An sat there doing homework, while the two adults, exhausted, fell asleep in the corner.
As night fell completely, Yue Ze opened his eyes, feeling dull for a long time before noticing he wasn’t at home. He moved his fingers and tried to prop himself up, but as soon as he raised his head, he fell back, his breathing becoming heavy.
An An noticed the movement behind her and rushed to his side, excitedly saying, “Uncle, you’re awake!”
The little girl’s voice was sharp and thin, and her words immediately woke up the two adults in the corner. The chubby guy, without fully waking up, ran out to find the doctor.
An An’s father walked to the bedside, with a bad expression, “You vomited blood all over the place. If the chubby guy hadn’t arrived in time, you might have lost your life.”
Yue Ze looked at him, lowering his eyes without speaking. An An beside him asked curiously, “Why did Uncle suddenly get sick?”
“He brought it on himself,” An An’s father said impatiently, “Don’t learn from him. You still have class tomorrow, so we’ll go back and let Uncle Chubby stay and take care of him.”
An An nodded, couldn’t help but yawn, and turned to look at Yue Ze, “Uncle, take good care of yourself, don’t get sick again. I’ll come see you this weekend.”
Yue Ze still didn’t speak. An An’s father scoffed, “Even a child is more sensible than you.” He then left with An An.
The doctor quickly brought medication, instructing the chubby guy to pour a glass of water for Yue Ze to take. The chubby guy busied himself, and after the doctor left, he handed the water and medicine to Yue Ze’s face, “Brother Yue, take your medicine.”
Yue Ze slowly closed his eyes, neither refusing nor responding.
