Yue Linze, hearing this, couldn’t help but hug her waist and pull her into his embrace. “That’s great, really great. You won’t age; you won’t have to endure the feeling of decline. I’m truly grateful… But will you despise me? If one day I grow old and ugly, will you leave me?”
“Of course not,” Tao Yu struggled out of his embrace and said firmly, “I love you, and I’m willing to love you for a lifetime. Whether you’re ugly or old, that’s still you, and I’ll love you all the same.”
Yue Linze listened to her with a smile, not feeling sad but thinking that if she could be free from illness, it was a good thing.
Tao Yu said a lot of sweet words, and when she had nothing more to say, she suddenly remembered a conversation they had many years ago. Her eyes lit up. “You once said you wanted two things: one was to grow old with me. Although I won’t grow old, I’ll be with you until you do. This wish will definitely come true. What was the other thing? I’ll get it for you, okay?”
“The other thing? I don’t want it yet. When I do, I’ll tell you, okay?” Yue Linze held her hand and walked towards the city lord’s mansion, listening to Tao Yu’s chatter all the way, finding her more and more adorable.
After telling Yue Linze, Tao Yu felt much lighter, and the two of them never worried about it again.
Time passed, and they began to travel once a year. A few more years went by, and Niannian finally found her beloved, a teacher from the academy, a very cute and scholarly man. When the parents met, Tao Yu realized that the teacher’s parents were the scholars she had helped many years ago.
She didn’t tell the scholar that she was the “big sister” he always mentioned, although later, when the engagement was official, Yue Linze couldn’t help but tell the scholar, who then realized the misunderstanding and personally came to thank her.
“But, you look so young. If not for my in-laws telling me, I wouldn’t believe you’re already forty,” the scholar marveled.
Tao Yu smiled and brushed it off, never mentioning it again.
