She finished speaking in a trembling voice, looking at the brothers earnestly, silently praying for a miracle to resolve their conflict.
She understood they were facing death, but as long as they were still conscious, she didn’t want to give up. Her suicide attempt was just a hope to dissolve their resentment before death approached.
After a long silence, Yue Ze spoke hoarsely: “Let’s be fair. Last time was your turn, this time it’s mine.”
“Last time depended on circumstances, this time should be the same,” Yue Lin said, then turned to Tao Yu, “I think… I’m not going to make it. Can you come and hug me?”
Tao Yu and Yue Ze were simultaneously stunned, looking at him in disbelief. Yue Lin smiled softly, trying to reach out to Tao Yu but lacking the strength to even raise his hand, saving his last bit of energy for something else.
Tao Yu walked over in a daze, kneeling beside him and touching his face: “What’s wrong?”
“You feel it too. I’m really…” Yue Lin’s eyelids were uncontrollable, about to fall asleep. “Hug me. I won’t force you to do things you don’t like anymore.”
As he spoke, a gray, dying look spread across his face, completely exhausted.
Tao Yu felt desperate, choking as she hugged Yue Lin. Yue Lin glanced at Yue Ze and slowly said: “It’s not that we have to hate you. I just don’t know what else my broken life can do besides hating you.”
Yue Ze’s heart sank, sensing what was coming. He shouted: “Yue Lin!”
Before his words finished, a gunshot rang out. Somehow, the gun in Tao Yu’s hand was now in his, and he shot himself in the abdomen.
Tao Yu stared blankly, frozen in place. Only when Yue Ze painfully screamed did she look down, seeing Yue Lin taking his last breaths in her arms, seemingly reluctant to leave the world.
Zhou Ying boredly rubbed his ear, gesturing to his subordinate who immediately aimed the gun at Yue Ze. A gunshot rang out, hitting Yue Ze’s hand and severing the rope. Yue Ze fell to the ground, crawling towards Yue Lin.
Zhou Ying slapped the man, angrily saying: “Useless!”
