It seems there’s nothing much to pack. We can buy whatever we need when we get there. Let’s sleep early tonight; the flight is at seven tomorrow morning, and we might have to wake up very early.” Yue Ze spoke with a hint of excitement, clearly looking forward to the new life.
Tao Yu nodded and smiled, promising to go to bed early. Yue Ze seemed worried and repeatedly reminded her. She helplessly said, “The hotel TV is broken, and I don’t even have a phone. What else can I do but sleep early?”
Come to think of it, she had entered this world wearing a wedding dress and hadn’t owned a phone since then. After such a long time, she had gotten used to this life, though the broken TV sometimes made her feel bored when she couldn’t sleep.
Yue Ze turned his face away, his mouth mechanically curved: “I’m just afraid you’ll oversleep.”
“Don’t worry, if I sleep in, you can come wake me up,” Tao Yu reassured him, patting his shoulder before turning to go rest in her room.
An uneventful night passed. The two left for the nearest airport before dawn. As it was the off-season and an early morning flight, there weren’t many people at the airport. They entered the waiting room without queuing, and the room was empty.
Tao Yu yawned and leaned back in her chair, looking listless. Yue Ze glanced at her and massaged her shoulders to help her relax: “You can sleep after boarding. I’ll go buy some breakfast. What would you like?”
“Bread and yogurt. It’s such a long flight, I want something light,” Tao Yu yawned again.
Yue Ze touched her face and left. Tao Yu sat in a daze for a while, startled by the sudden sound of a TV. Looking up, she saw the TV was on somehow. She rubbed her eyes and watched the morning news with interest.
Recently, she had done nothing but eat and sleep, so even a news program seemed interesting. Listening to the newscaster’s emotionless mechanical voice, Tao Yu gradually became more alert. Just as she was about to find someone to change the channel, she heard Yue Lin’s name mentioned on the TV.
