Candidates for Mrs. CEO

“Do you remember? The day we took this photo was Valentine’s Day. For every couple who visited our shop, we would take a commemorative photo. If the photo looked good, they’d get a 20% discount and could have their photo displayed on that wall! You wouldn’t believe how many customers saw your photo and said you and Mr. Huo were a perfect match!”

Some time after Valentine’s Day, the boss had taken down the couple photos but hadn’t thrown them away, keeping them instead.

Staring at the photograph capturing their past feelings, Shao Pinxi felt her eyes grow moist.

“I remember, Mr. Huo gave you a very special gift on Valentine’s Day.”

The gift… Shao Pinxi remembered! It was indeed a very special gift.

When she opened the exquisitely packaged gift box, it was empty, which confused her.

“What are you up to?”

“Don’t you like it?”

“Are you asking about the gift box or the air inside the gift box?” she teased.

He didn’t respond, just shrugged. “What do you think?”

Even without saying it directly, he knew she understood his intention.

“Soulmates” might sound cliché, but it truly applied to them.

He wanted to give her so many things that a single gift box could never contain all he wanted to give her.

The seemingly empty box was actually full of his feelings for her.

It was the most special and meaningful gift Shao Pinxi had ever received.

The boss said, “Come visit again with Mr. Huo when you have time.”

“…Okay,” Shao Pinxi forced a smile, holding back her tears.

The boss was already sad about losing his shop; there was no need to let him know she and Huo Juren had broken up and were now strangers.

“It’s a promise!” the boss smiled.

“Boss!” a customer called him.

“Coming!” the boss responded, “Miss Shao, excuse me. Enjoy your meal slowly!”

Looking at the photo in her hand, her emotions were complex. From her briefcase, she took out her wallet, which contained a photo from Huo Yawu’s birthday party of her and Huo Juren.

Although neither of them wanted to take the photo and it didn’t turn out well, she couldn’t bear to throw it away.

Perhaps this would be their last photo together.

Placing the two photos side by side highlighted the changes between them.
