”One day after. My father’s death anniversary.” The day she rolled in on inline skates, rushing in front of him, only capturing the four words “no comment.”
She quietly nestled back into his chest, wrapping his arm across her own chest, swaying gently.
”How does it feel to have successfully taken revenge?”
”Not great.” He shrugged.
”Didn’t you want to kick them, beat them, hit them, curse them, make them cry, kneel and beg for forgiveness?”
He almost laughed. “I don’t have time for that.”
”You didn’t go in front of them to show off, list the suffering you’ve endured over the years, and then drop a harsh warning to make them taste a fate worse than death?” She was starting to get a bit dissatisfied.
”Actually, I can’t be bothered to even see their faces.” He remained calm as ever.
”If it were me, I would definitely do that. I would curse them so badly that in their next life, they’d rather be dogs than humans. I would bribe the authorities, step on their chests with spiked shoes – really stomp on them! Make them apologize loudly to me, and I would drag them to my father’s grave to repent…”
”So vicious?” “Remind me never to offend you in this lifetime.”
He tightened his arms, inhaling her hair’s fragrance, as if this were the most important thing in the world.
”Why not? Aren’t all revenge scenarios played out like this?”
”Revenge is a shackle. Once I achieve my goal, the shackle is unlocked.”
It wasn’t easy in the flames of revenge. There was a string inside him that grew tighter with the passing of time, causing him to break into a cold sweat every time he thought of his father, deeply afraid of not achieving his goal.
”This shackle has imprisoned me for over a decade, making me taste unbearable pain. I don’t intend to live in this suffering for the rest of my life.”
Her dissatisfaction diminished slightly, and she nestled her small head into the crook of his neck.
”Justice prevails, evil is defeated, and then you move on with your life.”
