Myth of Madness

“Ouch!” He clutched his stomach, yelping in pain.

This woman… indeed, just like her sister said… has quite some strength.

Chen Ben, still holding his stomach, watched Xu Xuen as she casually walked towards the room.

“This high school boy, since I’m weak, please take that big bag of grains back to the room for me,” she said.

Watching her retreating figure, Chen Ben, in pain, picked up the large bag and followed her into the room.

He was staying in her room tonight, a very neat and neutral room, or rather, a room that didn’t much resemble a girl’s room at all.

The not-too-large space only contained a bunk bed and a wardrobe. The only feminine touch in the entire room might be the cat plush toy on the bed.

Xu Xuen sat on the bed, with a thick quilt dividing the middle, making it clear she intended to separate their sleeping spaces like a mountain range.

“Where should I put this bag?” he asked.

“Put it by the bed, so we can grab it and run if there’s an earthquake,” Xu Xuen took a deep breath. “Are you really going to sleep here with me?”

Chen Ben blinked his clear eyes, then jumped onto the bed and sat beside her. “Really.”

“But…” She felt her cheeks burning, her hands subtly touching her face. “Don’t you find it… very… strange?”

“Not at all.”

His eyes were as pure as a child’s, devoid of any gender bias, shining with sincerity, continuously reaching into Xu Xuen’s heart, making her feel that her heart was no longer as pure as a child’s, nor as his.

On one hand, she wanted to agree, feeling perhaps she was overthinking; on the other, her feminine instincts made her feel uneasy from within.

“How about you consider sleeping in the guest room? I can get you two quilts, would that be okay?” Xu Xuen looked at him with sparkling eyes.

Chen Ben knitted his brows, then shook his head.

“I have plenty of quilts at home, you can have as many as you want. I won’t let you get cold,” she said earnestly, trying to convince herself to be patient before convincing others.

He still shook his head, “I might kick off the quilt in the middle of the night.”
