Pulling the blanket over herself, Xu Xian En lay down again, her mind still racing. His smile, a very handsome smile, seemed to carry some tolerance and understanding, a feeling she couldn’t quite describe, yet it gave her an inexplicable sense of peace.
With her mind in disarray, she listened to his gentle snoring, and Xu Xian En gradually drifted off into a dream.
In her dream, vast expanses of red and purple skies reflected in her eyes. Zou Ben stood among the flowers, smiling at her, the flowers swaying gently with the breeze. Xu Xian En wanted to speak to him but couldn’t open her mouth; she could only smile at him. She approached him, but the flowers began to shake more violently.
She didn’t feel it was wrong and continued to walk towards him, but he was gone.
Xu Xian En stood helplessly in the flower garden, looking around in vain, but he was still gone.
“En En—”
His voice echoed from the heavens into her ears, but Xu Xian En still couldn’t see him. She anxiously circled around looking for him.
“Where are you? Zou Ben, where are you? I can’t see you!”
“En En! Wake up! There’s an earthquake!”
“Ah—” She gasped, sweat dripping from her cheeks, looking utterly panicked.
“Are you okay?” He looked at her anxiously, first wrapping her in the blanket, then dragging out food from under the bed, throwing it against the wall.
“What are you doing?!” she struggled.
“You fool! Don’t you feel the earthquake? Your house is built so well, I nearly got crushed by your bed!” He spoke to her with an unprecedented harshness. “Quick, let’s hide in the corner!”
She followed him with the blanket to the corner, curling up into a ball, only then realizing what her home had turned into.
“How could this happen?!”
The doorway was blocked by a pile of rubble, with scattered debris all around, and a large hole had opened up in the roof, making the rest of the structure look precarious.
At that moment, the violent shaking occurred again, and it seemed to intensify.
“I don’t know, but at least we can’t get out now,” Zou Ben frowned at her. “I wonder if anything happened to Xian Qi?”
“Qi? I need to check on her.”
