She cut off his words, continuing, “Yes, a creature with twelve legs, yet it walks slower than me, what a dumb cow.”
The so-called dumb cow seemed to telepathically understand, turning to glare at her with its big, black nostrils flaring and its mouth open wide, revealing its yellow teeth, snorting disdainfully a few times.
“What are you glaring at, you silly cow? I’m not lying; if you had any real speed, you’d be faster than me!”
Xu Xian’en continued her playful banter, seemingly forgetting she was sitting on someone else’s “property.”
Indeed, the cow had its own spirit, and with that provocation, it simply stopped moving.
Zou Bin watched this “human-cow standoff” with a mix of amusement and frustration, wondering why anyone would have the time for such antics at this point.
“Has it stopped? Ah, I told you cows are no good, Zou Bin, who told you to buy a cow? Why not a horse? At least sitting on a horse looks more majestic. A cow is slow, dirty, and not at all graceful—” She sighed in exasperation, “But then again, what else could you trade with? A few jugs of water, some fruit, and other stuff, what else could you get? If I had known, I would’ve brought more jugs, maybe we could’ve traded for a horse.”
Xu Xian’en paused, realizing that cows, especially those with their own personalities, couldn’t be easily moved. The cow, still looking indifferent, sat down on its haunches, completely ignoring her tirade.
“Okay, En’en, stop playing around,” Zou Bin scolded her with a gentle look.
This En’en was becoming more and more like a child.
“I’m telling the truth!” she argued reasonably.
“Spit.” Zou Bin kicked the cow’s belly, “You’re not really going to stop, are you?”
In response, the cow let out a few disdainful snorts.
“Don’t be like that, she’s just kidding,” Zou Bin said, his face full of black lines as he tried to communicate with the cow, realizing that the world of spirits wasn’t just strange for humans, but even stranger for animals.
The cow brother raised his eyebrows high, snorted again, but remained unmoving.
“En’en, you’ve upset it, say sorry quickly.” Seeing that the cow wasn’t listening, they needed to change tactics.
