The carriage then made a thunderous sound as it tipped to the side.
The two people in the driver’s seat were bloodied. One was pinned under the carriage with his lower body, already unconscious. The stall owner was struck against the carriage shaft, with one eye blinded. He wiped the blood flowing down with his sleeve, struggling to get up. Looking up, he saw a chillingly sharp sword pointed at his head.
“Where is the girl you kidnapped?” Old Eleven asked coldly, his gaze shooting out a light that seemed ready to tear the man apart.
Take another look at that wolf, its two ink-colored eyes flashing with hunger, staring intently, with drool dripping from the corners of its mouth, as if seeing the most delicious delicacy in the world.
Ye Hui’s courage grew, and she gently scolded: “Pah, you want to eat me? Dream on. If I had a torch right now, I’d roast and eat you myself. Don’t think you’re special just because you’re a second-class protected animal. In ancient times, you were only worth a fur felt to keep warm.”
The wolf seemed provoked and let out another howl.
Ye Hui’s heart skipped a beat, but the wolf immediately let out a painful cry, apparently because the effort caused the wire around its fur to seep out streaks of fresh blood.
Ye Hui’s eyes showed compassion: “You look quite pitiful, so I won’t be angry with you. But don’t provoke me. We’ll mind our own business and keep our distance. Don’t think I’ll save you though. You wolves are heartless, and saving you would mean losing my own life. I’m not that stupid.”
The long night stretched on, with a wolf lying a meter away. Even though it was a wolf about to be scrapped, it was still frightening. Ye Hui didn’t dare to sleep, enduring her hunger, talking to the wolf to pass the time.
The wolf was strange too, its ink-colored eyes sparkling with two dark lights, its growls gradually turning into a plaintive whimper, seemingly begging her to remove the wire from its neck.
Ye Hui couldn’t understand animal language, but she could feel the deep sadness emanating from the wolf, and could only say helplessly: “Mr. Wolf, you don’t want me to rescue you, do you?”
