The black wolf’s ink-colored eyes reflected a glistening light, whimpering continuously, almost like human crying. Suddenly, its front legs bent, kneeling before her, causing the neck wire to tighten and more blood to seep out.
Was it kneeling to her? Ye Hui was stunned. Was this a wolf with human-like understanding?
In the animal world, wolves are considered quite intelligent. In their struggle for survival in nature, some of their instincts are even more robust than humans, but they still can’t escape humans’ despicable hunting methods.
“Heh, poor wolf,” Ye Hui sighed sincerely. “I can’t remove the restraints from your body, at least not now. But I promise that once I’m safe, I’ll definitely save you.”
The black wolf’s eyes showed disappointment, still whimpering, heartbreakingly.
“However, I can loosen the wire so you won’t be in too much pain,” Ye Hui mustered her courage and took two steps forward. The wolf lay docilely on the ground, and she took two more steps. Within a meter, even with tiny steps, she was close.
The black wolf seemed to understand this human woman meant no harm and was unusually gentle.
Ye Hui drew her dagger from her deerskin boots, suppressing her pounding heart – a feeling not much different from when she was first captured into the Turkic camp. Taking a deep breath and calming herself, she squatted down, first gently stroking the wolf’s head in a friendly gesture, then carefully working to remove the wire deeply embedded in its neck, though not daring to completely remove it.
Even if the black wolf seemed harmless, she had to protect herself. Seeing the horrific bloody mess around its neck, she tore a strip from her white satin dress and carefully bandaged its neck to stop the bleeding.
“I don’t know why I’m stupid enough to save you,” Ye Hui sighed while bandaging, “but in this eerie wilderness, being a lone human, having you as a living companion makes me less afraid.”
After being bandaged, the black wolf seemed much more spirited, its ink-colored eyes glistening. It lowered its head and gently licked her deerskin boots.
