“Your parents have personally gone to apologize, but they are unwilling to accept.”
“I thought so.”
Yun Shaoye’s indifferent tone provoked Lou Yingji’s criticism, “I told you not to agree to this marriage, but you wouldn’t listen, which is why it’s come to this.”
“From your tone, it seems you’re not concerned about my runaway bride.”
“I’m not concerned about your damn sense of responsibility.”
Yun Shaoye made no comment, “How about the Yun family business?”
“Don’t worry, with Shen Fu and Jing Sheng supporting it, it won’t collapse.”
“They’re willing to take over?”
“They have no choice. Your father personally instructed them.”
“That’s good.” He was completely at ease with his two younger brothers taking over the Yun family business.
What’s so good about it? Those two kids keep harassing me with non-stop phone calls, demanding that I contact them immediately whenever I have news about you.”
Yun Shaoye could easily imagine that for his two free-spirited brothers, being stuck in the office all day was indeed a form of torture.
“So, you’re planning to sell out a friend?” Yun Shaoye asked with a not-quite-serious joke.
“If they continue to harass me,” he couldn’t guarantee otherwise.
“Seems I shouldn’t have contacted you.”
“It’s too late to regret now.” Lou Yingji then asked, “Where exactly have you been hiding these past three days? Your wallet is still with me.” Logically, he should have contacted him long ago, being penniless.
“I’m still in Taipei.”
“Where in Taipei?”
“A place you’d absolutely never guess.” Not that he was trying to be mysterious, but he himself couldn’t have anticipated it.
The hidden meaning in his friend’s words piqued Lou Yingji’s curiosity. “A grand hotel?” Despite being penniless, finding a way to stay in a hotel was no challenge for Yun Shaoye.
“Don’t think of me as stupid like you.” Hotels were crowded and noisy; staying in one would be like publicly announcing his location.
“So where are you staying?”
“A small apartment.”
Although the place was ridiculously small, it had all the basic necessities and could be considered a small apartment, Yun Shaoye thought.
“A small apartment?” Lou Yingji said skeptically, “You haven’t fallen into some slum, have you?” He couldn’t imagine his friend in such a dire situation.
