Veiled Heartbreak

“Why was she so foolish, knowing this number wouldn’t connect, why did she keep calling? Why!”

Fu Yusen felt a pang in his heart, pulling her into an embrace, listening to her soft sobs, his heart twisting like a rope.

After dealing with Jiang’s mother’s affairs a week later, Fu Yusen brought Jiang Nuan back to Luocheng. That night, Jiang Nuan developed a fever.

Fu Yusen took care of her for three days until it turned into a low-grade fever, but on the fourth day, he watched as Jiang Nuan’s nose bled.

Panicking, he thought of something, his face turning grim.

He took Jiang Nuan to the hospital, asking for a routine blood test along with other checks.

During the wait, Fu Yusen’s face was icy cold as he looked at his phone, and Jiang Nuan finally sensed something was wrong.

She unlocked his phone while he was in the bathroom. The password was her birthday; Fu Yusen, when he wanted to coax her, really went all out, no wonder she was so devoted.

For years, he never changed it.

The phone screen was still on the search panel.

“What are the symptoms of leukemia?” “Does nosebleed definitely mean leukemia?” “What is the normal level of platelets?”

Jiang Nuan turned off the phone and sat quietly, pondering.

When Fu Yusen returned, she watched as the usually calm and composed man walked past her like a zombie, unaware.

Jiang Nuan reached out and grabbed him: “Yusen, I’m here.” Jiang Nuan felt his warmth, and her courage grew. Her hand slipped down to Fu Yumo’s abdomen: “This year, did you miss me at all?”

At this moment, Fu Yumo searched through all the words in his mind and found none could express even a fraction of his longing.

He wished he could rip out his heart and slice it up for Jiang Nuan to see.

Fu Yumo lowered his head, taking in all her words.

His rough hand touched her skin, and his heart beat stronger with each touch, his whole body feeling like it was on fire.

Before he knew it, he was on top of Jiang Nuan.

His trembling hands unbuttoned her nightgown, and even though it was almost dawn, all he saw was a sea of white.
