Normally at home, she would hesitate to eat instant noodles out of fear of gaining weight, always needing an excuse to indulge. Now, with only snacks left to eat, she oddly missed the regular meals of her daily life.
“Ah?” Xia Ben Ma also started nibbling on the biscuits.
“There are chickens in the mountains.” Xu Xian En’s eyes lit up. “And some ordinary animals like crabs, though most are bizarre creatures.”
“I don’t care about ordinary or bizarre animals; I can’t even figure out what that big idiot outside is.” Xia Ben Ma angrily stuffed biscuits into his mouth.
“Him? Just a big monster that eats people.” She raised her eyebrows. “It was really wrong not to buy any drinks; snacks without beverages are like flowers without soil.”
“What I really want to eat right now is bamboo shoot rice…” Xia Ben Ma sighed.
“Bamboo shoot rice?” She looked at him, seemingly excited by the thought. “Bamboo shoots!” “What’s so exciting about a mountain spirit? Keep your voice down, or that big idiot will find us before we finish eating,” he said, pulling at her sleeve.
“If you hadn’t mentioned the mountain spirit, I wouldn’t have remembered!” Xu Xian’en smiled. “If I remember correctly, when this creature sees someone, it laughs, and its long lips flip over to cover its head. After it laughs, it starts eating people. So, someone thought of a way: they would tie two bamboo tubes on their arms, and when the mountain spirit catches them, as it starts laughing, they’d pull out their hands from the tubes and use a hidden knife to stab its lips, thus escaping.”
“So, if we find a knife and two bamboo tubes, that big idiot won’t eat us?” Zou Ben asked in return.
“Right!” she said with enthusiasm.
“The problem is, we’re in the mountains, and we’ve been walking for so long. Apart from weird trees, have you seen any bamboo tubes?” He gave a cold laugh and shrugged again.
She shook her head.
“Well then, even if we find something similar to bamboo tubes where we can stick our hands in, do you have a knife?”
She shook her head again.
“So, the conclusion is, we might as well wait to die together.” | Chapter Five
