“I don’t love you! I will only ever see you as my brother, nothing more!” She struggled desperately to avoid his passionate lips, tears streaming like a broken dam.
Stop! You can’t hurt the person most important to you anymore! You can’t make her cry anymore!
He lowered his head, cupping her face with both hands. “Tell me, why are we siblings? I love you so much, I can’t bear to see your tears anymore. Please, don’t cry!” He kissed her trembling lips.
Feng bit down hard on his lips without any mercy, the taste of blood making her want to vomit.
Ye Wufeng let her go and stood up. “Everything I said today, I meant from the bottom of my heart. I won’t regret it.”
Feng lifted her head, “You, you’re disgusting! I will never forgive you unless you forget everything that happened!”
“You’re vile,” she said, her voice hoarse, blood streaks in her eyes.
“I won’t forget.” He smiled, “I need to leave this home. If I stay, I can’t guarantee I won’t offend you again.”
“Where can you go?”
“Anywhere, as long as you’re not there. Ye Fangfeng, I’ll let you go this time. It’s best if we never see each other again. If fate can’t be escaped, I won’t give up halfway like today.” His sad and helpless smile was the last impression he left on his sister.
Although she had looked for him, she was truly afraid to see him. What if he hadn’t given up? What if his last words were true? The day of reunion might be the day one of them would be destroyed. She feared such a fate.
Chapter Three
Ye Fangfeng woke up to find herself sitting in a car. Without much thought, she knew the man beside her was Feng Jianya—her brother, Ye Wufeng.
“You’re awake.” His tone was calm. “Do you want a cigarette?” He handed her a pack of cigarettes.
“I don’t smoke.” She stared at the glass in front of her. “I want to go back.” She pushed the car door, but it didn’t move.
“After four years apart, you’re so cold. No matter what, in this world, we are the closest people to each other.” He started the car. “Give me a chance.”
“Wufeng—”
“Call me Jianya. I’ve buried my past.”
“But you can’t bury the fact that you’re my brother.” She said sharply.
“Uh—” Jianya slammed on the brakes. He turned his head, his eyes flashing with cold light. “Ye Fangfeng, after the concert, I’m going back to Japan.”
She had just thought to herself, “Thank heavens,” when he immediately continued, “You’re coming with me. I won’t abandon you like last time; you shouldn’t have forgotten what I said four years ago.”
“I won’t go with you. Let’s pretend we didn’t see each other today, that nothing happened.”
“Impossible! You think I’ll let you go?” The ruthless brother she didn’t know four years ago was now quite domineering towards her.
“You’re making things very difficult for me.”
“I’ve already decided.” He wouldn’t allow her to object.
“Stop acting like you’re in charge. I’m your sister!” She was furious.
“I don’t care if you’re my sister or brother; Feng Jianya always gets what he wants.” He started the car again. “You can’t escape!”
“Where has Jianya gone?” Tian Zhongwen was extremely anxious.
“Alas, you should have watched him!” Zhong Zeqian grumbled. “You know what he’s like. Given a chance, he’ll cause trouble.”
“I’m sorry.” Chun was almost in tears. “I’ll go find him now.” She headed towards the door.
Zhunei stopped her. “It’s not your concern.”
“Zhunei?” Chun looked at him with wide eyes.
“Jianya isn’t a three-year-old; he doesn’t need you to be his guardian.” Those striking blue-black eyes swept indifferently over the people in the room.
Bing Shi Qingyan continued playing his video games, maintaining his usual indifferent attitude towards anything unrelated to him.
“What if something happens to him?” Zhong Zeqian wouldn’t let the matter rest easily.
“Jianya is Taiwanese. He knows this place better than we do.” Zhunei shrugged.
“Enough, enough. Yaya knows all the details about the concert. I hope he wouldn’t be unprofessional enough to run away,” Wen Shan laughed helplessly. Although he said so, he wasn’t entirely convinced by Yaya’s words. He knew too well what kind of excessive things that man could do.
“Well, then, I’m leaving. Chun, come to my room.” Zhenxi stared at Chun.
Chun followed Zhenxi into the room. Just as he was about to ask what was going on, his mouth was already covered.
“Don’t do this.” She pushed him away with force.
“I helped you just now, consider this as your thank you.” He laughed unnaturally. “Or have you gotten used to Yaya’s flirtations and can’t accept anyone else?”
“I am not Yaya’s woman.” Chun whispered, leaning against the door. She looked at him, a somewhat handsome man, full of arrogance. Zhenxi was the child left behind by his father, a celebrity, during his time in France, and was sent back to Japan at the age of twelve by his equally irresponsible mother. The lack of love in his childhood made him rebel against everything. This was a confidential investigation conducted by the Xinjing Production Company on its artists to prepare for any media digging into their personal lives.
“Zhenxi, I am not the kind of woman who can just go to bed with a man for no reason. Without love, I won’t do it.”
Zhenxi mocked with a sneer, “So serious about love, that’s unexpected! I was just joking with you. Who would believe things like responsibility or ‘I love you’ anymore?”
“You’re avoiding reality. I believe there exists love that can make one give up everything!”
“Which is why I say, all women are fools!” He flopped onto the bed, “I’m going to sleep.” Supporting his head with his hand, “If you stay here any longer, I might get the wrong idea.” He laughed quite smugly.
“Goodnight.” She left his room.
In my heart, there is already someone I like. But I lack confidence in love; I fear being abandoned again. Zhenxi painfully clutched his pillow, the unpleasant memories from childhood flooding back into his mind.
Zhenxi, haven’t you noticed that I already feel differently about you than others? But this love would only be mocked by you; I don’t want to be despised by you. How can I help you overcome your fear of love? Chun leaned against the wall, painfully closing her eyes.
Yaya’s car stopped outside the house.
“It’s been four years, and you still remember the way home.” Ye Feng was conflicted inside. Ignoring him, she couldn’t forget that he was her brother; paying attention, she feared hearing words she didn’t want to hear.
“I’ve never forgotten.” Yaya opened the car door with the remote, “I’ll walk you in.”
“No, Yaya, listen to me again. We are impossible.”
“There’s no such thing as impossible in this world.” He got out of the car and forcefully slammed the door.
Ye Feng reluctantly let him in. Everything in the house was still in its place, even his room was the same. In his room, there was an FZR model.
“The entire Wu family has gone to the US, and he said this is your car. I’ve always hoped you could come back home,” she met his gaze, “As your sister, I want nothing more than this.”
“Fang Feng…”
“It’s better to call me ‘sister.’ I often have nightmares where you keep chasing me, and each time I wake up scared. I’ve thought more than once that if I just stopped thinking about you, everything could go back to normal. But you are my brother, my only kin, how could I possibly forget you?” She knelt on the floor, hands on the ground, tears dripping down.
Let go. As long as he could stay by her side, that would be enough. To love someone is to wish for their happiness, not to cause them pain. He smiled sadly.
“Sister, I’m back,” he said to her, considering her more important than his own life. From then on, he would strive harder to restrain himself.
She looked up, somewhat surprised. “Are you truly determined not to do those things I disapprove of, not to say those things I don’t want to hear?”
