After Shen Qian left her bone marrow sample, she waited for about half a month. By then, Shen Qian and You Ran were already living in Jiangxia Community. Notably, while in the ancient town, Qian Qian gave birth to five puppies. Shen Qian said, “Dogs usually have two to four, having five is rare, showing how strong my mixed-breed’s seed is.” You Ran coldly splashed cold water, “Isn’t it usually one shot, one litter? The credit should go to the mother.” Shen Qian gritted her teeth, annoyed at his cold water throwing, and pointed at You Ran, telling Qian Qian, “Qian Qian, bite him, he says you’re impotent.” Qian Qian paid no attention to her; it was busy bathing its pups with its tongue. Shen Qian couldn’t help but tear up, “He said you’re impotent, and you have no reaction.” “I didn’t say that, you’re twisting the facts. Impotence means not being able to get it up, so whose pups are those? Not Qian Qian’s?” You Ran raised an eyebrow. Qian Qian seemed to understand human speech, stopped licking, and slowly turned its head to look at Shen Qian with a menacing gaze. “…” You Ran burst into laughter, tousling Shen Qian’s hair, “You’re going to make Qian Qian angry to death like this.” When Shen Qian went to the hospital, many people accompanied her, all in the know. Nan Nan, Ms. Hu, and You Ran. Shen Qian sat uneasily in the chair. You Ran hugged her from the side. Nan Nan seemed agitated, hands clasped together, her gaze restless. Ms. Hu was the most nervous, constantly clasping her hands, gripping so tightly that her fingers turned white and her hand’s back purple. Finally, it was their turn. The doctor said, “There’s good news and bad news.” Everyone was taken aback. “The good news is, Miss Shen’s bone marrow matches with Yu Tianyang’s.” No one knew whether to be happy or not because there was also bad news. “The bad news is, Miss Shen is pregnant. If you want to donate bone marrow, a pregnant woman can’t, so either terminate the pregnancy or… just forget it.” The doctor gave a professional smile.
Author’s Note: This should count as a special kind of melodrama = = Amen, it’s so tangled. Yesterday, I went crazy watching TV, staying up all night to finish the series, ╮(╯▽╰)╭ It was too good. Today, there’s an extra update to make up for it. (^__^) Chapter 43: This bad news is only relative to some; for Shen Qian, it was a dilemma. She remembered her first reaction upon hearing this news was to look at You Ran’s reaction. His face initially showed surprise, but it quickly faded, replaced by calmness, his gaze drifting towards Shen Qian. He didn’t seem very happy. Shen Qian thought so. Ms. Hu, upon hearing this, asked Shen Qian with a terrified tone, “Miss Shen, how do you think we should handle this?” Shen Qian shrugged, “This isn’t just my call, give us half a month.” Ms. Hu paused, looking at You Ran, who watched her expressionlessly before giving a polite smile. Ms. Hu held back her words, understanding the situation. Shen Qian approached You Ran, nestling into his embrace, nudging his arm, pitifully saying, “I’m pregnant.” You Ran smiled, “I know, mine.” Obvious! Shen Qian immediately wanted to hit him; she thought he’d say something about his potent seed or something, but instead, he said something obvious. You Ran hugged her tighter, continuing, “Let’s go home and celebrate you properly.”
Shen Qian watched Yu Ran with a puzzled look; his behavior was so bizarre that she couldn’t fathom it. Just as Shen Qian was about to be taken away by Yu Ran, Ms. Hu hesitated for a long time, wanting to speak but stopping herself. Finally, she couldn’t help but ask shamelessly, “I hope Miss Shen can give us an answer as soon as possible.” Shen Qian just waved her hand in acknowledgment.
In truth, Shen Qian’s feelings were complex upon learning she was pregnant. Firstly, the arrival of the baby was so sudden that she hadn’t even considered it, yet it made sense given her and Yu Ran’s unrestrained passion without contraception. Secondly, Shen Qian was not married; at best, she could announce her engagement to the world, which would mean an out-of-wedlock child. She didn’t like the idea of having a child out of wedlock, and this was the third layer of her complexity. She disliked it, yet she didn’t want to terminate the pregnancy, not even understanding why herself. In short, Shen Qian was at a loss and could only rely on Yu Ran. However, Yu Ran’s lukewarm attitude made her somewhat depressed.
Upon returning home, the messy-haired dog greeted them at the doorstep, wagging its tail. Shallow’s (the dog’s) bed had been moved to the outer hall for easy access to go outside, giving her more time to watch over her puppies. The outer hall was filled with the tender cries of the milk pups, crisp and sweet, adding a certain flavor to the atmosphere. Yu Ran entered the house and immediately went to check on Shallow, gently stroking the now maternal dog, then turned with a smile to pet Shen Qian’s head. Shen Qian, annoyed, swatted his hand away, “I just washed my hair yesterday.”
Yu Ran suddenly scooped her up, causing Shen Qian to exclaim in surprise and slap his hand, “What are you doing?” “Checking if you’ve gained weight.” “The doctor said it’s only been three weeks.” Shen Qian gave him a look; three weeks, and it was just an embryo, how much could it weigh? Yu Ran set her down, stared at her face for a while, then looked again, and finally asked, “Shallow, I just need one word from you, do you want this child?”
Shen Qian was taken aback; Yu Ran wasn’t being indifferent or uncaring about her pregnancy; he was worried she might not want the child. After some serious thought, Shen Qian hesitated, “Actually, I don’t have much affection for Tian Yang. I admit I’m selfish, but if I had to choose between the child in my womb and Tian Yang, I might choose the former. People might curse me for it, but…” Yu Ran covered her moving lips with a slight smile, indicating she didn’t need to say more. Shen Qian blinked her large eyes, looking innocent. Was Yu Ran disapproving of her unfilial behavior? But she had no fatherly affection for Tian Yang; in fact, she even blamed him, feeling no gratitude. By reason, Shen Qian had an obligation to save Tian Yang; by emotion, she seemed to have the freedom to choose.
Shen Qian pushed Yu Ran’s hand away, continuing, “I…” “Shallow.” Yu Ran sighed, pulling Shen Qian to sit on the sofa. After sitting for a while, he placed her on his lap, gently holding one of her hands, gazing at her for a long time before he continued, “Since I was young and understood love, I swore to myself that I would only love one woman, not to provoke other women, nor let anyone provoke my woman. I only want one woman, for life, to bear my child with her body, and then to love that child from her body.”
“Shallow, before or after you, I haven’t been without feelings for others.” Yu Ran gave a bitter smile, “Every woman has her merits, and once you discover those merits, you can’t help but be moved. But…” Shen Qian watched Yu Ran silently, listening quietly because she felt he was speaking from the heart.
“I’m not willing to settle. I know clearly who the most important woman in my heart is, who I want to cherish the most, and I understand that some people are irreplaceable. This would be unfair to both me and another woman. So, I’ve kept others at bay, sealing myself off.” Shen Qian held Yu Ran, feeling a pang of sadness, wanting to say something but unable to.
Yu Ran smoothed Shen Qian’s hair, “I understand, my dad loved my mom, but his first wife stood between them, preventing him from fully committing, or perhaps he couldn’t settle. My mom felt wronged and passed away in resentment. With such a clear example in front of me, I can’t settle.”
“Are you saying you’re holding onto me because you don’t want to settle, not because you’re loyal to me?” Shen Qian pouted.
