Pet Romance

***One year later… inside a certain vegetable market. Li Meili was carrying bags of various sizes, but Gao Changfeng was in an even worse state; he was holding a child, bags hanging all over him, and the one around his neck was choking his face a deep purple. Gao Changfeng, feeling oppressed, said, “Wife, can we really eat all these vegetables we’ve bought?” “What nonsense, of course, we can…” Li Meili shot him a look, “Look at that bunch of dogs, my god, Shallow is too fertile, she’s given birth to twelve pups in a year.” Gao Changfeng shuddered; mentioning Shallow inevitably brought up what Li Meili hated the most… “Damn, that dead mongrel, if it’s going to get frisky, it should at least use a condom. Other dogs have two litters a year, why does Shallow have three? Honey, go to the pharmacy later.” “What for?” “Buy some condoms; I can’t stand it anymore.” Li Meili, getting agitated, raised her voice. The louder she got, the more people could hear, and the content of her words… was bound to make people think too much. Seeing the odd looks from the surrounding crowd, Li Meili blushed with shame. But before she could finish feeling embarrassed, she heard an even more awkward conversation nearby.

“Slow down, dear.” A woman was panting.

“Who told you to dawdle this morning? Now we’re late.” The man seemed to be panting heavily too.

The woman was momentarily confused, then shyly said, “Who touched your thing this morning? It was clearly you touching my breasts.” With just that sentence, the crowd’s attention, which had been drawn by Li Meili’s earlier words, immediately shifted to this couple.

You Ran, seeing the crowd glancing their way, blushed even deeper from the exertion, her ears turning red. He pulled Shen Qian, “I didn’t say ‘touching the chicken’, I meant ‘dawdling’.”

“…” Shen Qian stood there stunned, almost collapsing. In front of her, in the baby stroller, a little baby giggled mischievously…

Side Story 1: The Case of Seeking Love Over a Pancake

Shen Qian had recently taken a liking to the newly opened Tujia Pancakes on Southeast Street. Every day after work, she would line up for two or three hours to buy two or three pancakes to take home, completely ignoring the meals You Ran painstakingly prepared.

Today, as usual, she went to line up for pancakes. Seeing the long queue, her heart sank; how many hours would she have to wait? While she was still pondering the length of the line, a man in a black fitted trench coat, looking even more distinguished, walked out from the front, holding three pancakes and taking a light sniff.

Shen Qian stared at this man of elegance, first in disbelief, then with a dark expression. This guy, who always complained about the lack of nutrition in pancakes and how dirty they were, was now caught red-handed sneaking a bite! Without a word, she strode over, snatched the pancakes from his hand, took a bite, and smoothly linked her arm with his, smiling, “Darling, how thoughtful, knowing I love pancakes, you lined up for me.”

You Ran squinted his long, narrow phoenix eyes and smiled, “They do smell good, but are they really that tasty?”

Shen Qian nodded vigorously, “They’re really chewy and full of meat flavor.”

You Ran raised an eyebrow, smiling slightly.

Shen Qian suddenly remembered something and checked her watch; it was 6 PM. She quickly asked, “Where’s our little You Yu?”

“He’s been taken by Grandpa to play.”

Shen Qian’s eyes lit up, not minding the greasy hand that had just grabbed the pancake, she grabbed his sleeve, grinning, “Honey, does that mean we have some alone time today?”

You Ran glanced at her, his smile faint, a stark contrast to Shen Qian’s open excitement. It was no wonder Shen Qian was so thrilled; ever since little You Yu was born, their days had been filled with chaos, sometimes driving Shen Qian to the brink of madness, screaming louder than the baby, as if they were in a battle to the death.

It’s said that a daughter is a father’s lover from a past life. Their little You Yu must have been a frustrated little lover, crying whenever Shen Qian held her, but laughing incessantly when You Ran got close. Now, at three years old, she loved her dad to the point of monopolizing him, leaving Shen Qian in a state of pitiful solitude.

Today, with You Yu not at home, Shen Qian could do whatever she wanted. Imagining her plans with You Ran, she let out a rather inappropriate laugh.

You Ran slightly tilted his head, giving his overly expressive wife a sidelong glance, his lips curling into a slight smile.

Sure enough, once they got home, Shen Qian tossed her beloved pancake onto the table, snuggled into You Ran’s arms, her eyes teary, “Honey, let’s do it.”

You Ran calmly tidied up the snacks on the sofa and handed her some trash, “Go throw this away.”

“Oh.” Shen Qian happily disposed of the trash, but when she came back, she saw You Ran heading upstairs.

“Honey, where are you going?” Shen Qian asked, puzzled.

“To take a bath.”

Shen Qian’s eyes lit up at the mention of “bath”, and she hurried after him, intending to join, but You Ran stopped her, saying, “Dear, go wash next door, we need to be extra clean today.” He gave her a suggestive wink.

Under his spell, Shen Qian nodded foolishly and went to wash in another room.

Usually, Shen Qian took about fifteen minutes to shower, while You Ran took around ten. Today, Shen Qian rushed through her shower and, in a flash, was in their big bed, only wrapped in a towel, diving under the covers.

Listening intently to the sound of water, now loud, now soft, continuous and unbroken, it was irresistible. Yet, there was no sign of it stopping. Shen Qian curled up in her quilt, staring into the distance, her heart torn apart with longing. Longing turned into sleepiness over time, combined with the comfort of a large bed and the soothing feeling after a bath, she drifted off to sleep.

Shen Qian was awakened by You Ran pressing down on her. When she opened her eyes, You Ran was just removing his bath towel, then gracefully took a small cherry into his mouth. Shen Qian moaned, her mind was in turmoil, but the memory of her desperate desire for intimacy being rejected made her suppress her urges, pushing You Ran away, “I’m tired, I want to sleep.”

“A bit of exercise will wake you up.” You Ran pressed down again, kissing her forcibly. After a moment of awkwardness, the scent of You Ran after his bath, mixed with his body fragrance she adored, began to overwhelm her senses. Just as she was about to give in, her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl. You Ran paused, Shen Qian was stunned, and they stared at each other for a long time before You Ran asked, “Are you very hungry?”

“I only had a pancake at noon and just took a bite of one earlier.” Recently, Shen Qian was obsessed with pancakes, eating them for all three meals except breakfast at home. At noon in the hospital, she had pancakes, and on the way home, she’d buy more, not eating dinner.
