Crazy Smartphone – Part Two

Rushing downstairs, Lin Feng expected chaos but was met with a scene of order in the waiting hall where over a hundred people had previously caused a disturbance. People moved about normally, with no sign of the earlier chaos. Lin Feng was somewhat baffled, randomly stopping someone to ask, “Were you beaten by two women? I can heal you with my powers, I guarantee it’ll work instantly without any needles or medication, and you won’t feel any pain or itching.” However, the person looked at him suspiciously, rolled his eyes, muttered “lunatic,” and walked away, making Lin Feng seem like an escaped patient from a mental hospital. Lin Feng asked because he saw the man with a bandage around his head, one arm in a sling, and a bruised eye, clearly a casualty of some incident, and judging by his pained expression, the injury was recent.

“Hey! I can heal you!” Lin Feng shouted.

“Screw you!” the man retorted with a middle finger.

“Hey! Don’t rush off, come with me, I promise your wound will stop bleeding in two minutes and heal in five. I stake my reputation on it!” Lin Feng called out, trying to convince the man to follow him to a secluded spot to demonstrate his healing abilities. But the man, irritated, cursed at Lin Feng’s female relatives and summoned his own female relatives to counterattack. Overwhelmed, Lin Feng retreated. Thus, his first attempt at healing failed.

Failure was one thing, but Lin Feng couldn’t understand why his goodwill was ignored and why he was called a scammer or a lunatic. Scammer? Lunatic? Lin Feng felt a small figure emerge from his left palm, transforming into a regular smartphone in his grasp. The tactile sensation of the “182 Rich Man” device still made his heart race. He sighed, feeling somewhat frustrated.

Calming his mind, he thought perhaps he was too eager, leading to misunderstandings about his intentions. This matter couldn’t be rushed. He resolved to continue, even if it meant attracting trouble, as it was better than people getting upset and seeking out those two violent women.

He continued to approach similar-looking injured people, but the responses were eerily uniform. Some treated him as a lunatic, others suspected him of having ulterior motives. Some, ignoring their pain, ran straight to the hospital’s security to report him. By this point, Lin Feng was not just puzzled but felt like he was in a dream, suspecting that these people might have been beaten into confusion by the two violent women. He emphasized each time that he was referring to the injuries caused by two beautiful women, promising to take full responsibility for any consequences if they dropped their pursuit against the women. Yet, no one paid him any mind. Instead, when he mentioned the women, people gave him disdainful looks, implying, “We knew you’d say that, but my injuries are my own business!”

These people were extremely wary of linking their injuries to the two women, which puzzled Lin Feng the most, leading him to wonder if Xu Xiaoman had used her position to threaten them into silence. However, their attitudes suggested something entirely different, an underlying excitement as if they were glad to have been injured.

Lin Feng’s head was spinning trying to understand the situation. As he rushed downstairs, he had imagined countless scenarios where he would heroically heal everyone, turning a tragic event into a legendary tale of a lone hero saving the masses. He envisioned himself, the unparalleled divine healer, effortlessly healing all wounds, leaving with a flourish, not taking even a wisp of cloud with him. The naive, innocent crowd would, moved by his deeds, abandon their grievances against the demonic women, and gather around him in admiration.

Most importantly, he fantasized that if all went according to his plan, perhaps his “spiritual ocean” would gain immense “moral points” from the genuine praise of the people. This was the ultimate event he yearned for. However, his beautiful dream was shattered. The injured preferred enduring pain and waiting in line for conventional treatment rather than listening to him. Those annoyed by his persistence, while not resorting to violence, gave him no friendly looks, especially when he mentioned the two women.

Reports about Lin Feng’s strange behavior soon reached the hospital security. As he made another attempt, he finally learned the reason behind this bizarre scenario: someone had indeed stepped in, employing drastic measures to silence them. The person who had taken the spotlight was apparently a wealthy man. Lin Feng was immediately annoyed. Before he could get more details, the informant, spotting something, clammed up and quickly distanced himself from Lin Feng, disappearing in an instant.

Following the direction of the man’s departing gaze, Lin Feng saw security guards, armed with long batons, closing in. Not knowing the outcome of the previous incident, Lin Feng didn’t want more trouble and quickly seized an opportunity to escape.

Of course, he wouldn’t rashly use the Gale Step just because of this, nor would he do anything startling. He merely quickened his pace slightly, slipping out of the hospital gates faster than the average person. As he dashed out the door, the curses of the security guard came from behind. A very rich man had settled that commotion? A very rich man… This phrase kept echoing in Lin Feng’s mind! A very rich man, who could make nearly a hundred injured people shut up about the cause of their injuries in a very short time, and these injured folks even wished they were hurt a bit more, how rich must this man be? How rich exactly, to make Xiaoyun leave the hospital without even considering him? Lin Feng suddenly felt a sense of crisis, along with a slight, sour discomfort in his heart! Standing somewhat desolately at a crossroads not far from the hospital, he suddenly didn’t know where to go next. After a moment of confusion, he took out his phone and called Wang Xiaoyun, only to learn that she and Xu Xiaoman had already gone home. From her voice, Wang Xiaoyun seemed downcast, knowing he wouldn’t get much out of the call, he offered some gentle words of comfort, but then suddenly didn’t know what to say next, and the call ended in silence, with neither knowing who hung up first. Lin Feng wandered aimlessly at the intersection. Just then, heavy, tired footsteps approached from behind. “Mr. Lin, Mr. Lin, please wait!” A disheveled, sour-smelling man with a scruffy beard, as if he hadn’t washed his face in days, panted as he caught up. “Mr. Lin, you walk really fast! I almost missed you! Who are you? How do you know my surname is Lin?” Lin Feng cautiously sized up the man, but the man’s aura was as ordinary as could be, just a common person. He realized he had been too lax earlier, only noticing the man’s presence when he was nearly upon him. And from the surveillance results in Nuonuo’s monitoring screen, it was clear and unmistakable that the man was indeed just an ordinary person.
