“That’s good. If there are no problems, I’m hungry now,” Yajun said with a kind look at Luo Yaling.
Changing expressions faster than turning pages! Did he come just to ask for food? This thought made her angry. It felt like he wasn’t visiting her but merely asking for a meal.
“Jun, shall I cook for you when we go back?” Yu Hui quickly asked, sensing the tension.
“No, not good. I want Ling to cook for me,” Yajun replied like a spoiled child.
“What did you… say?” Yu Hui’s demeanor shifted from calm to irritated.
“I’m not saying Hui’s cooking isn’t good…” Yajun hastened to clarify, sensing Yu Hui’s displeasure.
“Nonsense! You’re only coming here because you have something to do! This is your idea of a visit?”
“What are you talking about? I’m here to see you and pass on a message! Besides, a lady shouldn’t speak so casually,” Yajun lectured Luo Yaling.
“A lady? I’m more of a ‘lady’ than anyone, more refined than an iron comb!” Hmph! Here he goes lecturing again, which she hated. She thought he had been influenced by the old man.
Well, at least he was slightly better than the old man! He wouldn’t drone on until her ears curled.
“Ah… never mind. You simply won’t listen,” he thought. Fine, let her do as she pleases. Yajun sighed.
“I know, stop talking,” Luo Yaling thought gloomily. He clearly knew what she hated most, yet he still talked about being ladylike.
“Are you going to cook or not?” Yajun suddenly shouted at Luo Yaling.
“Hmm…” Luo Yaling raised her head and pointed in a certain direction.
Yajun turned to look where she was pointing. Ah! Damn. He saw Hua Chihui’s face turning ugly; he had said the wrong thing again. Before she could get angry, he’d better placate her.
“Lingling, I’m leaving now. Good luck!” Yajun said to Luo Yaling, then pulled Liu Yuhui and ran outside. Better to talk at the hotel! Staying here would make Lingling laugh at him, ruining his brother’s image. Shen Tianya felt frustrated.
“Wait… Oh my! They ran away. How did my brother become so flustered? It seems getting a wife changes a person. Would finding a husband change me too?” Who knows? She didn’t even know who her husband would be. Go with the flow! Her brother wished her good luck? Recently, she’d been so unlucky; where would good luck come from? Could there be a romantic opportunity? Forget it! She didn’t want too much trouble.
Chapter Forty-Seven: Wang Nie
“Xiao Ling, you can’t blame me. I thought President Shen was interested in you, but it was all a misunderstanding.” Her faulty information had led to this confusion; she had hoped to help Xiao Ling seize a good opportunity, but the Zhuo Enterprise heiress was involved with him. However, she didn’t come away empty-handed. As for Xiao Ling? She’d apologize first, but this girl already knew what had happened.
This little one was easy to handle; she was too naive. A good explanation would settle things, and she might need her in the future. Since Xiao Ling seemed familiar with President Shen, it was better not to offend her. Wang Qing thought rationally.
“Xiao Ling, wake up. Work is over.” The last employee nudged her, seeing Luo Yaling still asleep.
“Uh… Xiao Zhang, is work over?” Luo Yaling opened her hazy purple eyes.
“Yes, everyone has left. Why are you still here?” He hadn’t noticed her attractiveness before, especially her eyes, which were truly beautiful.
“Ah!!! Work is over! Xiao Zhang, I’m leaving first. Bye!” Luo Yaling quickly grabbed her bag and rushed out, leaving a bewildered Xiao Zhang behind.
“Alas! She was just resting a bit, how did it get so late?”
Luo Yaling sighed while walking along the roadside, not noticing a car following her until she was about to turn. Suddenly, a “honk honk” sound came from behind, prompting her to look back. She saw a handsome man nodding at her from inside the car, then he got out, locking the door and walking towards her.
“Miss, don’t you recognize me?” Wang Nie removed his sunglasses and spoke.
Did she know him? She couldn’t remember ever seeing him. Luo Yaling looked at him, puzzled.
“It’s truly heartbreaking that you’ve forgotten me so quickly,” Wang Nie said sadly.
“Do I know you?” she asked. How could she have forgotten someone she never met?
“Don’t you remember that night?” Wang Nie persisted.
“What night?” She felt confused by his insistence.
“The night before yesterday when you asked me about someone. Did you find that person?” Wang Nie asked.
“The night before yesterday?” She vaguely recalled asking someone something but hadn’t paid attention. Why would he recognize her?
“You’re wondering how I still recognize you, right?” Wang Nie asked Luo Yaling.
“Yes, how do you know what I’m thinking?” Luo Yaling replied, surprised.
“Because of your eyes. That’s how I recognized you.” He thought she was naive, but he kept that to himself.
“Eyes? I’m not the only one with purple eyes,” she argued.
“Your unique eyes and expression, I won’t mistake them.”
He was right about that night being her.
“You can’t park here,” Luo Yaling pointed at his car, realizing she was being nosy.
Wang Nie glanced at the car, then looked back at her: “You’ll have to come with me in the car to move it.”
“Me?” She hesitated, feeling it would be dangerous to go with a stranger.
Luo Yaling paused before saying, “I’m going home.”
“Then I’ll drop you off. Isn’t that the same?” he replied.
“I want to go home myself. I don’t know you. How can I get in your car? Isn’t that unreasonable?” she asked politely.
“It seems so. I’m Wang Nie. May I ask your name, miss?”
“Wang Nie? I’m… Xiao Ling.”
The name was okay, but the person wasn’t great. She felt he was like a playboy.
“Xiao Ling, Xiao Ling. I’ll call you Ling Ling from now on, that’s settled. Okay? Ling Ling.” Wang Nie looked at Luo Yaling expectantly. He knew the name she gave was fake but didn’t care. He had decided to call her that.
“What? Ling Ling? That’s usually used by old men, my brother, and Hui Hui. Almost no one else has called me that.”
“Is it not okay?” Wang Nie asked eagerly.
“Of course… it’s fine.” Whatever, let him call her what he wants!
“Really? Great! Ling Ling, so now we’re considered friends. Can I send you home?” Wang Nie said happily.
“Uh… this…”
“Gurgle…” A sound came from Luo Yaling’s stomach, making her both laugh and feel embarrassed.
“Ling Ling, let’s go eat first! I’m hungry too. After we eat, I’ll take you home,” Wang Nie said.
“Then… okay!” She got into his car and accompanied him for a meal.
She never expected that having a meal with him would take so long. She watched Wang Nie elegantly eating across from her, growing increasingly frustrated.
This elaborate French dining style was something she simply couldn’t stomach, yet she had no choice but to accompany Wang Nie slowly. The experience made her unhappy and uncomfortable, and the expense was frightening. While many women might dream of dining here with him, she absolutely did not want to.
Afterward, Wang Nie took her up the mountain to see the night scenery. They looked at the lights of thousands of homes below, but the sky was pitch black, with only the moon hanging above. Wang Nie gentlemanly draped his coat over her, but soon admitted he was cold.
When Luo Yaling attempted to return the coat, he stopped her, saying, “No, I have a perfect solution…” He embraced her, saying, “This way, you and I are both warm.” Shocked, she wanted to struggle but didn’t, as sleepiness overtook her and she did not want to aggravate her wounds.
At this moment, the wind was strong and cold, past midnight. Wang Nie’s chest was warm as the drowsy Luo Yaling fell asleep in his arms under the night sky.
Wang Nie looked at her and smiled softly, touching her face unconsciously. Their incongruous positions highlighted Wang Nie’s gentle smile.
