“Wang Qing rushed into the office and shook her shoulders vigorously. “Xiao Ling, weren’t you doing well? Why resign?”
Luo Yaling glared at Wang Qing. “Can you stop shaking? I’m about to get sick.”
“Sorry, I got too excited. Do you have unavoidable difficulties causing this? You can tell the chief editor,” Wang Qing said, feigning kindness.
“Yes, tell us what’s wrong,” the chief editor encouraged.
Resigning was turning out to be complicated. Everyone was pretending to care, particularly Wang Qing, whose two-faced attitude was frustrating. What could she say? Discuss Chen Lei’s assault? Nonsense! Would the chief editor even believe her?
“Sorry, I just want to change jobs, nothing else.”
“Xiao Ling, the general manager will be coming. Whatever you want to say, tell him then,” the chief editor said, looking at Luo Yaling.
“What? He’s coming too?” Luo Yaling exclaimed.
Did he act like last night never happened? Was he coming to apologize or still not giving up?
“Xiao Ling, you…” The chief editor was startled by her tone.
“Chief editor, thank you for taking care of me. I’m leaving. Please inform the general manager,” Luo Yaling said as she turned to walk out.
“Xiao Ling, can’t you wait a moment?” the chief editor asked.
“Yes, at least for the chief editor’s sake,” Wang Qing added.
“Sorry, I need to go back,” Luo Yaling flatly refused.
If she couldn’t resign, she would just leave. But this might invite trouble. Forget it; she’d go see Shen Yixuan since nothing was happening.
When she arrived at Shen Yixuan’s company and stepped out of the car, someone called her from behind.
“Xiao Ling, I finally found you.”
Luo Yaling turned back and glared at Chen Lei who had followed her.
Why was he here? How annoying.
Let go!
” Their dispute attracted onlookers, making Luo Yaling feel uncomfortable, her beautiful eyebrows slightly furrowed.
How unlucky could she be? Who would cling to her like this! So annoying! Who could save her? Why hasn’t your daddy come yet? Mommy is about to break down! Luo Yaling was inwardly distressed.
Just then, an angry voice rang out.
“Did you touch my wife’s hand?” Shen Yixuan pulled Luo Yaling away, throwing off Chen Lei’s grip on her.
“Why are you here?” Luo Yaling joyfully pulled at Shen Yixuan.
“Shut up,” Shen Yixuan said, dragging Luo Yaling into the company despite the shocked expressions around them.
Why was he being so harsh? She hadn’t done anything wrong! Luo Yaling complained to the baby in her belly.
In the office, Shen Yixuan sat her on the sofa and then sat down at his desk without saying a word.
Luo Yaling looked at him glumly. Why wasn’t he speaking? Was he angry? She had just come to find him. His face was so stern, not cute at all. She sat on the sofa, pouting.
Shen Yixuan glanced at Luo Yaling while looking at his documents.
This girl, hadn’t he clearly told her not to wander? She was disobedient. He decided to move her back to his residence for better care and peace of mind. Shen Yixuan secretly planned.
Finally, Luo Yaling couldn’t sit still. She stood up and walked toward Shen Yixuan. He noticed her approaching and quickly lowered his head to the documents.
Suddenly, she ran in front of him and hugged him. He looked down in surprise at the small head burrowing into his chest, unsure how to respond.
Although he hadn’t meant to scold her, her disobedience angered him, especially seeing another man holding her hand. Yet, her coming to find him also made him somewhat happy.
Chapter 79: Causing Trouble
“Xuan, am I interrupting you?” She hated his silence. Was he upset that she had come without telling him? Luo Yaling sat on his lap, raising her expectant eyes.
“What did you call me?” Shen Yixuan asked uncertainly.
“Ah? I… am I disturbing you?” she said awkwardly, twisting her fingers.
Shen Yixuan furrowed his brow, his expression looking strange.
Luo Yaling finally called Shen Yixuan by his name instead of just “hey” or his full name. Hehe! Progress. If she did this every day, that would be even better.
Shyly, Luo Yaling glanced at him and said, “If you’re busy, I can go back now…” as she made a move to get up.
She wondered why he was looking at her like that; it made her feel embarrassed.
“If I were busy, I would tell you,” Shen Yixuan said, quickly hugging her and pulling her onto his lap.
“Eh? Will this affect your work?” Luo Yaling asked in surprise.
Was he not worried about being seen? But his embrace was comforting, making her feel sleepy. She thought as she yawned.
“Sorry, I was being too meddlesome,” she said sadly, resting her head in his embrace, eyes half-closed.
“Silly girl. Just be good and don’t overthink,” Shen Yixuan replied, gently stroking her hair and pressing her face against his chest.
“Oh,” she murmured, peacefully closing her eyes and falling asleep.
Shen Yixuan looked at her tenderly, smiling affectionately. She seemed tired, and he unconsciously touched her not-yet-protruding belly.
After a while, he held her with one hand while reading documents with the other.
At a coffee shop:
“Miss, is this seat taken?” Wang Xie asked Zuo Ning politely.
No,” Zuo Ning looked at him, surprised.
He was quite handsome, but her Xuan-ge was even more so, Zuo Ning thought proudly.
“May I sit here?” Wang Xie asked with a smile.
“Whatever,” Zuo Ning replied, sipping her coffee.
“It’s quite something that your boyfriend would leave such a beautiful girl alone.”
“My Xuan-ge is very busy, unlike some people who are idle,” Zuo Ning glared at Wang Xie.
“Oh? I just saw your Xuan-ge with another woman. You say he’s busy? Leaving you alone here while he’s with someone else?” Wang Xie observed her reaction, a hint of triumph in his eyes.
“You’re lying! How could my Xuan-ge be with another woman?” Zuo Ning stood up, glaring at him.
“I’m not lying. Why don’t you go to his office right now and see for yourself?” Wang Xie said before slowly standing up and leaving.
Zuo Ning couldn’t believe it. Isn’t he in love with her? She wanted to see for herself. Dazed, she settled the bill and entered Xuan Ling Company.
Zuo Ning could go upstairs without announcement, but at the office door, she saw Secretary Xu blocking her.
“Miss Zhuo, you cannot go in,” Xu said.
“Why can’t I go in? Can’t I see my brother Xuan?” Zuo Ning retorted.
Usually, she would push the door open without anyone stopping her. What was happening today? Could it be true that her brother Xuan was holding another woman in his arms? She wanted to see for herself.
“I’m sorry, Miss Zhuo, President Shen is not receiving guests today. Please come another day,” Xu Chu said, gesturing for her to leave.
“Oh? In that case, I want to go in even more,” Zhuo Ning replied defiantly.
“Sorry, Miss Zhuo, you cannot go in…” Xu Chu attempted to stop her, but it was too late. She had already pushed the door open.
A “slap” sound interrupted the warmth inside.
Zhuo Ning immediately changed her expression upon entering the office, and Shen Yixuan looked up unhappily.
“Sorry, I couldn’t stop her…” Xu Chu glanced apologetically at Shen Yixuan.
“It’s fine, you can go,” Shen Yixuan said, gesturing for him to leave. He then looked at the woman in his arms, who was moving uneasily, causing him to frown.
“Brother Xuan, look how Secretary Xu wouldn’t let me in. Isn’t he bad?” Zhuo Ning said, glancing at the woman with a flash of malice, just as Shen Yixuan looked down and missed her momentary glare.
“Ning Ning, you’re not young anymore. Don’t be so rash,” Shen Yixuan frowned at Luo Yaling, gently stroking her furrowed brow.
