Crazy Smartphone – Part One

“You’ve been acting a bit strange lately, Linlin. You must behave, especially since I’m alone at home with your dad working away and unable to come back often. You need to study hard and not mix with bad company. With the college entrance exam approaching, I’m not educated enough to help you, but you must strive to do well…” Listening to his mother’s admonishments, Lin Feng, for the first time, listened with such attention and felt deeply moved. Scenes from the previous night when he sat alone by his mother’s bed, reflecting on life, flashed before his eyes. His mother had aged, with many white hairs now; she had worked too hard! Lin Feng quietly watched his mother, counting the wrinkles on her forehead and the white hairs by her temples… The two stood there, one speaking, the other listening. However, after a few sentences, Lin Feng’s mother noticed that her son was not interrupting her as usual, but was listening attentively. She hesitated, stopped her nagging, and with a hint of apology, gently patted her son’s head. “Look at me, nagging again. Oh! Enough, enough, let’s eat before the food gets cold!” With that, Lin Feng’s mother truly stopped and turned to leave. What’s wrong with Mom? Did I disappoint her so much? Is she giving up on me? Lin Feng watched his mother’s slightly hunched back, his nose tingling, and tears welled up uncontrollably. Moments later, he covered his mouth and sobbed silently, lacking any semblance of manhood.

“Linlin, time for breakfast and then off to school!” Lin Feng’s mother called out cheerfully. Lin Feng, hearing this, was momentarily stunned but quickly understood. His mother had forgiven him for whatever he had secretly done. “Coming, coming!” he responded with a joyful shout, glanced at the messy books on the floor, and with a thought, used his swift hand technique to tidy up in a flash. He rushed out of the bedroom, but in his excitement, accidentally bumped his left hand on the door frame. Thud, something conspicuous fell to the ground. Lin Feng quickly bent down to grab it, and as his left hand touched the fallen object, he squeezed it a couple of times, and a white light seemed to flash from his palm. The object then mysteriously disappeared into his hand. Lin Feng exhaled deeply, gripping his left hand tightly, not daring to open it again. Oh, Big Beauty, please, please don’t cause any trouble now. At most… at most, if you have any special requests, I, Lin Feng, will comply without question…

The much-desired storage space of Big Beauty, allowing items to be stored and retrieved at will, had unexpectedly appeared in such a manner. What Lin Feng hadn’t anticipated was that the first time Big Beauty had inadvertently stored the gun and four thousand yuan he had snatched from Cao Nan, and this time, it had concealed a pile of troublesome women’s underwear with such a fierce special function. Both times, Big Beauty had shown its power in ways he couldn’t have anticipated. However, after these two special experiences, he had somewhat figured out how to activate this storage space. Using Big Beauty to hide women’s underwear, the thought of those disgusting things being oddly stored inside his body was mildly unsettling. What worried him even more was that this habit of stealing women’s underwear seemed to be intensifying. What was he to do? This time, Lin Feng learned his lesson. After hastily eating, he found a secluded spot, quickly retrieved the evidence, poured gasoline over it, and set it ablaze, watching until it turned to ashes before sneaking away. He didn’t go home or directly to school; instead, feeling it was still early, he dashed in another direction…

(Note: “Big Beauty” appears to be a term Lin Feng uses to refer to some kind of magical or special ability or entity, possibly a personification of the storage space or an item with magical properties.) Lin Feng gave an awkward smile and continued, “I know none of you believe me and think I’m just talking nonsense. Look, everyone, here’s the letter of guarantee I’ve written. I will give this letter to my cousin, hoping she will supervise, urge, and help me to…” Before he could finish, a chalk projectile hit him squarely on the forehead with pinpoint accuracy. Wang Xiaoyun, fuming, said, “Stop embarrassing yourself with all these grand promises. What good is a letter of guarantee? Get down here!” With a barrage of words like bullets, Wang Xiaoyun drove Lin Feng off the podium, and she confiscated his letter in the process. As they passed each other, Wang Xiaoyun whispered venomously, “If you dare to claim kinship recklessly again, I’ll never speak to you.” “I’ll heed my cousin’s advice!” Lin Feng whispered back, then burst into a loud, triumphant laugh. To his classmates, however, this only seemed to confirm his hopeless condition.

Wang Xiaoyun took the letter back to her seat, ignoring Lin Feng entirely. This exaggerated scene had unfolded because that morning, as Wang Xiaoyun stepped out of her house, Lin Feng, ghost-like, appeared out of nowhere, insisting on accompanying her to school with a playful grin. Wang Xiaoyun, knowing of Lin Feng’s sordid history of stealing women’s underwear, was naturally repulsed by the thought of being near such a scoundrel. Unaware of the situation, Lin Feng had caused a ruckus on the way to school, and in her anger, Wang Xiaoyun had hurled some harsh words at him, labeling him a worthless, aimless rogue. Imagine their surprise when Lin Feng then pulled this stunt in the classroom!

As soon as she sat down, her phone buzzed with a message. She opened it: “Xiaoyun, has Zhu Tingting been acting normal these past few days?” Wang Xiaoyun thought Lin Feng was up to his old tricks, trying to apologize after annoying her, but instead, she received this unexpected query. Zhu Tingting? What about her? She’s already gone home. What business does this scoundrel have with Zhu Tingting? He really cares too much. Ignoring him, her phone buzzed again: “Is Zhu Tingting not coming to class today?” What’s with the sudden interest in Zhu Tingting? Just because she kissed you in public that day? Disgusting! Still ignoring him, another message came: “It seems like two other girls are missing from our class too. Check if there are two empty seats. As the class leader, you should be more concerned about your classmates. Are they not coming to class today either?”

Wang Xiaoyun suddenly stood up, marched to Lin Feng’s desk, and knocked on it, “Hey, you just finished writing that letter of guarantee, have you already forgotten your promises? With your fickle mind, thinking of this and that, you think you can get into Nanjing University? You’d be better off at Galgadon University. How ridiculous!” She slammed the letter down and stormed back to her seat. Wang Xiaoyun’s outburst stunned everyone, but soon they began to piece things together: “Hey, from the way they talk, it seems like… Lin Feng’s letter was written specifically for Wang Xiaoyun? Didn’t he say it was for his cousin? Why does Wang Xiaoyun keep bringing it up? Is Wang Xiaoyun Lin Feng’s cousin? Wow, what a scandal! Hey, have you heard about Lin Feng having a cousin in our class?”

Wang Xiaoyun was mortified; she could hear the whispers. Despite her efforts, her embarrassing secret had been exposed. To make matters worse, when she glanced back, her ‘cousin’ was approaching with a smug look on his face. She couldn’t let this scoundrel claim kinship. Sensing danger, Wang Xiaoyun got up and ran out of the classroom. “I can’t deal with you, but I can certainly avoid you, you damned scoundrel! I’ll deal with you later!” However, Lin Feng, seemingly with a face now made of granite, shouted after her, “Cousin, don’t run!” and chased after her.
