Crazy Smartphone – Part One

“Stop pretending! Humph, even if I accidentally touched you, it was because you bumped into me on purpose. I didn’t mean to take advantage! You, you, you want to handcuff me over this, you, you, you fascist! Can you arrest someone just based on this? If I had known, I should have touched you more, even if you arrested me, I wouldn’t have lost out. Now, I’ve really lost out!”

While speaking, Lin Feng mustered his courage and leered at the policewoman’s chest, even deliberately swallowing hard. He wanted to provoke her again. Yes, that’s it, only by making her lose her composure first could he turn the situation around. “I’ve really lost out! I’ll grab, I’ll pinch, I’ll press…” Lin Feng muttered, his right hand mimicking grabbing and pinching in the air, his greedy eyes making his intentions clear to anyone watching.

“Hah, little pervert! Still talking tough at this point!… Hey, what are you doing!” The policewoman, both angry and amused by Lin Feng’s lewd actions, tried to hit him on the head, which he dodged by ducking. Perhaps recalling the embarrassing incident when he had groped her, she blushed momentarily but quickly hid it.

“Ha—” The young male officer driving had been sneaking glances through the rearview mirror. Although Lin Feng’s actions were blocked, hearing his excuses made him laugh, which infuriated the policewoman, who then hit him hard on the head.

Unexpectedly, she didn’t get angry. The policewoman’s reaction was surprising; in the face of Lin Feng’s harassment, she merely blushed and seemed to ignore it. Lin Feng, not wanting to concede defeat, seized another opportunity, stretching out his hand again. This time, he was overly bold, his fingers almost touching her chest.

“What are you doing!” The policewoman recoiled, angrily swatting away Lin Feng’s hand but did not react further. Lin Feng had expected a slap or some form of retaliation, planning to use it as an excuse to escalate his crude tactics, perhaps even provoking a physical confrontation. However, his plan was thwarted; his fingers felt a warm sensation, but the policewoman merely swatted his hand away without further action.

“Loser! Such a loser! Can’t even be a successful pervert!” Lin Feng was frustrated.

“Little pervert, stop playing games with me. Just tell me everything you know!” Lin Feng still held out, hoping for a miracle. The policewoman’s attitude was too peculiar, giving Lin Feng a glimmer of hope. Perhaps she hadn’t actually intercepted the conversation with Xiao Qiang. If he confessed, wouldn’t that be… Admitting to killing seven people means certain death; not admitting might give him a slim chance of survival. So, he decided to bet on his luck! If the police knew he had killed seven people in one breath, they wouldn’t be this calm, let alone try to recruit him as an informant. She had been acting all along, trying to win him over, which seemed genuine. No one could be so nonchalant about a killer of seven. There must be something else going on here! Maybe she didn’t hear anything substantial, maybe she’s been bluffing all along! Yes, this judgment must be right! With this stroke of luck in mind, Lin Feng clung to his last line of defense, though his heart was in turmoil, sweat beading on his forehead.

The radio continued to play, but now it was just static noise with occasional panting and chaotic footsteps… When Lin Feng and Xiao Qiang met, their voices were never heard. Even so, it was still heart-wrenching. Lin Feng’s heart pounded furiously, as if it was stuck in his throat, ready to burst out at any moment. Lin Feng was extremely nervous, gripping his fists so tightly that the handcuffs cut into his left wrist, drawing blood without him noticing. “Do you want to listen more?” Seeing Lin Feng fall silent again, the female officer assumed a victor’s stance, leaning forward towards the front of the car, indicating she was about to turn off the audio. Her mouth curved in a high arc, resembling the stroke of a Chinese character written with a brush. The look on her face gave the impression that her scheme had succeeded. Lin Feng saw this clearly, but a flash of realization struck him. Why was she smiling so mysteriously? At that moment, her hand was already on the audio switch. She was bluffing!

In the blink of an eye, Lin Feng suddenly roared, “Don’t turn it off, I want to listen, I want to know, huh, I really want to find out what bad things I’ve done that you, as a police officer, dare to arrest someone on the street so casually!” Seeing the impatience on the other’s face, Lin Feng became even more convinced of his judgment. “Really want to listen?” the female officer asked, showing a hint of anger. “Yes, even if I die, I want to!” “Hmph, don’t be ungrateful!” she threatened, but her bluff was too obvious, which made Lin Feng feel more confident. Damn, I guessed right! Lin Feng exclaimed inwardly. Shit, I almost fell for this dirty cop’s trick, this nasty woman, trying to deceive me! How cunning, too cunning! They say not to trust beautiful women easily, and it’s true, it’s true! She’s actually angry, if she had solid evidence, why would she be so furious? She definitely didn’t record anything useful, that must be it! Otherwise, these dirty cops wouldn’t be dealing with me so half-heartedly now; they would have mobilized a large force to surround me, the murderer. Don’t forget, Cao Lei, that bastard, he’s the head of the city’s criminal police unit. After I embarrassed the Cao brothers at school, he must have sent his subordinates to pull this little stunt out of spite.

“Are you sure you want to listen?” “Hmph, hmph…” Lin Feng mimicked her. “Fine, today I’ll let you give up completely!” The female officer’s face turned frosty, no longer giving Lin Feng a pleasant look. She adjusted the car’s surveillance equipment, skipping the crackling static noise, and then a conversation started to play. It was the voices of two men. However, the voices coming from the audio were not those of Lin Feng and Xiao Qiang but of two other men. Although these two deliberately kept their voices low and rough, Lin Feng immediately recognized who they were. The conversation turned out to be a secret discussion between Li Xiangdong and Cao Lei. But Lin Feng quickly figured out why; he remembered the bug he had secretly placed in Li Xiangdong’s pocket during the school’s naming ceremony. He had mistakenly put the bug the female officer had placed in his pocket into Li Xiangdong’s. That’s why there was no signal at the time. But when he met with Xiao Qiang and others, the bug was definitely in his pocket, so why did the female officer skip that part of the recording and play the conversation between Li Xiangdong and Cao Lei?
